The soldering pad came off on my pcengine duo HELP!

The light green lines you see on the dark green board are the traces.

You can see one going from that capacitor to the little component with 153 on it.

You can try scraping some of the trace off to reveal the copper, yes.

But using a point where the trace surfaces is probably easier...

To me it looks like there are 2 traces on the top (looking at the photo). The one goes up to the 153, while the other goes under that black chip with legs on it.

What about the bottom trace. It looks like the pad connected to the little hole on the board. There are hundreds of these little copper looking holes everywhere and the bottom part of the pad seems to terminate at one of these. Are those like grounds?


As for the light green lines on the dark green board. If that's the case, the whole bottom area near the screw is light green...does that mean I can connect anywhere on there? Since that's probably where the bottom part of the pad is connected to?

Generally when there's a hole like that, it goes through to the other side. Do you have a multimeter? That would be extremely helpful in double checking what's all connected. Where are you located? Maybe you should bribe someone with lunch or a game for some assistance.

I totally down with a bribe . I live in the Houston area and am willing to drive to you, buy you lunch dinner whatever if you're willing to help me fix this beautiful system.


As for a multimeter, no I don't have one. Can you recommend me one on amazon that might do the trick? Thanks!

Wonder if this guy is legit..http://www.game-tech.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/TD/TurboDuo he has an ebay page it looks like, with good reviews. Seems like an upfront guy. Wondering if anyone has used him for mods/repairs....

No clue on that site. I just have a cheap multimeter I got from Fry's. You might get one that specifically has a continuity test or has a capacitor testing function. I think I paid $40 for my current one. But just a basic $20ish one with voltage and resistance testing will still help.

I could probably be bribed to look yes. Not sure when I'll have free time for a bit though. My place looks like Ike just came through though and I really need to clean up so any potential visitors aren't injured.

NO. Just rename your OP so the same stuff does not have to be covered all over again.

Maybe try practicing on a scrap PCB, scratch off a trace and do some soldering? Once you get your hands full into it then you will see the traces and how to fix it. This will give you the confidence to tackle the repair yourself.
