Frankly, I wish the US drivers test was much more strict than it is. So many unskillful, crazy, belligerent people on the roads, it drives me mad. It would be nice if we weeded more of them out.
Noticed you are from Denver, maybe because the curbs are covered by the snow?

Since when the hell do you have to pass parallel parking to get a license? I seriously don't know anybody who HAS passed it.
I had to pass parallel parking for my Texas license years ago. Admittedly I'm not great at it as I don't have to do it very often, but the larger the city you live in or visit, the more likely you'll need the skill. Frankly US driving tests are a joke. If you grew up riding around with someone who wasn't a complete jerk behind the wheel then you should be halfway toward passing before you even take driver's ed. I wish US driving tests were harder and that people with too many moving violations or diminishing facilities were retested to make sure they're still road worthy.
Agree, Parallel Parking should be one on the requirements, thankfully its required in my state. Better then getting my car bumped by someone who does not know how to park. That or an idiot blocking a narrow road because they can't park on the concrete edge.
This reminded me once when I was waiting to pick up my kid from school. A lady pulled up behind me and bumped my car in trying to park next to the curb. She was not even Parallel Parking, just drove up behind me. Since there was a red curb towards the back of her car, she tried to squeeze in. The nutty part is after tapping my car, she even tried to go forward that little bit more just to clear the red zone! I got out immediately pointed her to backup and luckily saw no damage. A few loud words from me made her park somewhere else.
