This should be a "frown" in that other thread... but yeah, that thread is blocked.
How are they blocking individual threads? Is it due to content?

 Since when the hell do you have to pass parallel parking to get a license? I seriously don't know anybody who HAS passed it.

Really? In the UK you're required to do at least one manoeuvre on a test (it used to be two), which might be a parallel park. Other ones are reversing around a corner (left or right), a three point turn or a reverse bay park. In fact, I got the parallel park as mine when I passed my test last year.

Here, parallel parking is not commonly done. In fact, the only places I know of around here to do it are around town square, and even then in only one of the three closest towns. Honestly though, it depends on who tests you. Neither of my parents, nor any of the others I have asked passed parallel parking. Personally, I think its bullshit that it is the first part of the test.

I didn't have to parallel park during the test.

Come to think of it... I don't think I've ever had to.

Exactly.

From what I can gather, somewhere around 2010 or 2011 they changed it to where you HAVE to pass it to pass the test at all, where as, before, it only hurt you for the amount of points you would lose.

I've had to parallel park before, quite a few times. Though when I did a driving test, it mixed in inner-city driving, interstate driving, three-point turns, and a few other things.

Yeah, I've not had to parallel park since either, although I can imagine situations where I'd have to, especially now I live in London where parking spots are hard to come by. For what it's worth, no matter which manoeuvre you get, if you screw it up you'll fail your test here. Most notable screw ups like being too far from a kerb or hitting the kerb with your tire are instant majors, and a single major is a fail.

I can't seriously phantom how parallel parking couldn't be required. Seriously.

Certain keywords get flagged. The f-bomb is one of them. Hilariously, the word "h e n t a i" (spacing it out so I don't block this thread) will also flag the page.

On the topic of parallel parking - I've only done it twice in my life. Once while I was getting my permit, once while I took my driving test for my license. I've never been in a situation (in Maine) where I needed to parallel park.
