I see you are not a fan of Roguelikes.

Hmm, I'm not sure if you would consider the Binding of Issac a Roguelike, but I love that game. I think it's more that I still remember the disappointment I felt for the game as a pre-teen and I haven't given it a chance since, heh.

I have played a lot of JRPGs, and far and away the worst of all of them has to be Hyperdimension Neptunia. The game is impossibly bad. Bad voice acting, bad combat mechanics, bad design, bad story, terrible localization, embarrassing graphics, and horrendous overall game design. The whole game has a sheen of laziness and lack of cultivation and refinement and a complete disregard for video games as entertainment.

I like the first game, but the sequel was kinda meh. Really can't see myself picking up the third game, which I think is due out later this month. The concept was cute and quirky, but it wore off pretty fast. It's really one of those things that should have just been a singular game - not a series. Too much of a good thing, you could say.

Oh and I like rougelikes. Incidentally I was given a copy of the original Rogue some months ago (I dunno if it's rare or not), but the game didn't work because there was mold all over the disk. Yes, mold. I was upsetted.

I felt this way about Disgaea. I put so much time into that game and was so absorbed into it, and yet I had no desire to pick up any of the sequels. Granted, I am sure there are people that are very happy to see this many Disgaea and Hyperdimension games.

From the little I played of the first Hyperdimension game, I really liked it. It would be one of the first games I bought if I ever purchased a ps3.

Since KH came out first, shouldn't it be the other way around? :P

Pretty sure this is the common opinion of the series.

When you say it all went downhill, do you just mean the ps2 game? Or did you not like The Last Hope either? Also, while it may not be common opinion, I would rate the SO games as such:

Second Story > Last Hope > TeoT > SO (I have not played the GBA game)

I can totally understand not liking TeoT, but don't avoid Last Hope because of it. The game is much more accessible imo.

Actually I played a bit of Till the End of Time and watched my then girlfriend play through The Last Hope, and I really wasn't impressed by either. I admit that I did think The Last Hope made a better overall experience, but did it live up to my opinion of The Second Story? I'm afraid not. I did like what I played of the original Star Ocean(via emulator and translation patches). I have never played a handheld Star Ocean game, so I cannot say one way or the other how I feel about them.

Its definitely not as good as Second Story, can't argue with that, but I guess I was expecting more TeoT from Last Hope, so I was pretty happily surprised by it. I can understand why someone wouldn't dig it, I just wanted to make sure you at least gave it a chance, as I know some people steer clear of the game due to TeoT.

I had a really hard time getting into the first Star Ocean, but I tried playing it immediately after Second Story, so that may have had something to do with it.

Either way, I still don't think we are finding stinkers here. I have a hard time calling any of these games "bad". I think its more that the games require a good amount of time and dedication, and a lot of us have dozens, or even hundreds of rpgs, so the game has to be a 9/10 game to make you want to stick with it instead of jumping to something else.

At least thats how a feel, some people may actually consider Kingdom Hearts a poorly programed, unplayable mess.

I don't know, Disgaea at least mixes things up by giving you a completely new cast in each game. I honestly find it more astounding that NIS manages to pump out Disgaea as often as they do, considering the sheer amount of content in each game.

Thats true, but I guess the first game was just so overwhelming that, while I enjoyed it, I never felt like jumping back into the madness. Granted, I sunk about 300 hours into the first game, so I may have spent too much time with it.
