FTP to xbox problems
I have found a couple tutorials, but they haven't been of much help. once i get it set up i can figure out how to transfer files and whatnot, but i can't seem to get them linked. from the tutorials i have seen there are a few different ways to do it. I recently bought a router, as i was given a hand-me-down laptop. so, shouldn't i be able to send the files wirelessly, or do i need a cat5 cable to hook from the router to the xbox. i found a tutorial that shows you how to type in the xbox ip into the adress bar so it will show the xbox files on my desktop and i can just drag and drop into the appropraite folders. problem is the only ip adress i can find is 192.168.0.2 which seems to be a generic ip, as it was also shown in the tutorial before the author changed it to his ip.
i dont even know if any of that makes sense. I am kinda newb to this ftp business, and am not quite sure how to get the xbox and my computer linked so that i can transfer the files. any help would be appreciated.

Re: FTP to xbox problems
The XBOX doesn't have a wifi chip, so yes, you'll have to plug a cat5 cable into your xbox from your router/switch whatever. If you have XBMC installed, the rest is pretty easy. If you have DHCP enabled on your router, it should pretty much just work. Otherwise check the IP on your computer, and set the XBOX to something similar. i.e. if your laptop is 192.168.0.5 then use 192.168.0.6. It should work as long as the first 3 numbers (the subnet) is the same and nothing else is using that IP.

Re: FTP to xbox problems
thanks for the info. that cleared up some things for me.
so i need to set my own ip on the xbox, and any should work so long as they are not the same as my computers? or as long as my router has the dhpc enabled, i dont have to? shoulf i be able to go into my routers settings to change it if it is not enabled?
also, will it say on the cable if it is crossover or not? a buddy said he had some extra cat5 laying around, and when using a router you are not supposed to use crossover cable, so i was just wondering if the cable should clearly be marked wether it is or not.
sorry for all the dumb questions

Re: FTP to xbox problems
If you have a router you don't need a crossover. Just standard cat5e will do.
just plug the xbox into the router, boot up unleashx and the IP will be displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen. Just go into your FTP program click connect, put in the IP that is shown on the xbox's screen into the address, xbox for username and xbox for password. Press connect. it *should* connect without a problem.
IF it connect without a problem. congrats, start copying programs over into your E folder.
If it did not connect, chances are you don't have DHCP on your router or it's not enabled on the router software. Either enable it through the admin page (look it up for your router, usually it can be found by typing 192.168.1.1 into your browser's address bar) or just go into the configuration option on unleashx and then go to network and give it an IP. It doesn't even have to be on the same subnet as your computer as you are giving an explicit address in your FTP client. I suggest sticking to something similar (but not the same) to your computer's IP eg. PC = 192.168.1.6 Xbox should be set to something like 192.168.1.10. Something nice and easy to remember.
Hope that helps.

Re: FTP to xbox problems
You can use software for your PC called Quix or C-Xbox Tool that will transfer ISOs to your xbox HDD over FTP. Works like a charm. Google it and grab it for yourself.executioner wrote:Wished you could load games to hdd via ftp...
