NON-COLOR Neo Geo Pocket - Worth it?
I'm talking about the Japan-only Neo Geo Pocket. Not the color version we also got here in the US.
I've been toying with idea of getting one of these for some time. Any reason to pick up one if I already have the NGPC?
What are some of the best games for the system? I'm having a hard time finding a list, as many websites (like GameFAQs) lump NGP and NGPC games together. That Ogre Battle title certainly looks intriguing.

I thought all NGP games are compatible with NGPC and all NGPC games compatible with NGP? If so, I can't think of any reason to want a NGP myself.

Is it at all "interesting" even from just a hardware standpoint?
I mean, I bought a WonderSwan even though I already had a WSC. I just love hardware I guess.

me personally, I have no interest. I adore my NGPC -- I think the hardware is phenomenal. But man, I wish it was front/backlit. My parents found my Game Gear in their basement last week and I was playing that clunky thing and thinking that if the NGPC screen was even as bright it would be a pretty perfect piece of hardware.

I think the NGPC will add some color to NGP games.
I guess its similar to when we play GB games and on start-up we can fiddle with the color.
Its on the menu of the system when you turn out on with no game in it. It gives you a few different color tones.
I think some games even say it on the cart.
Or is it vice-versa?

Not much real point unless NGPC has some incompatibility I've never heard of.
If you do, stick to Japanese. The very few European non-color games are rare.

Lum fan.

The NGP is slightly smaller, lighter and more compact than its successor. There are a few games though from the "Color" catalog that it is not compatible with. SvC MoM for sure. Last Blade and Gals Fighters also... perhaps.
In terms of games for it, its library is rather tiny (10 to 12 games if i recall), but the 2 that I've enjoyed the most is KOF R1 (as its based on my favorite entry of the series "97" and my favorite character was also not removed... Kim.) and Samurai Shodown (not to be confused with Samurai Shodown! on the NGPC).

I'd only recommend it if you're a collector. I'll probably get one eventually just because I love the system so much and want to own everything related to it.

Isn't the NGP regionless? The NGPC istheclaw wrote:Not much real point unless NGPC has some incompatibility I've never heard of.

Re: NON-COLOR Neo Geo Pocket - Worth it?
I'm kind of leaning in that direction. I really like Neo Geo hardware: I have an AES, NGCD, NGPC, and NGX. I'd like an MVS-to-AES converter (not interested in a CMVS or arcade cab) and (maybe) the original Pocket Color and my collection will be complete. Now if only the games weren't so rare and expensive...lisalover1 wrote:I'd only recommend it if you're a collector.
