Kinda strange that two completely unrelated movies based on Oz are coming out this year though, but I guess that just happens sometimes.
All animation? Pass.

OZ has a buzz, so everyone will try to cash in.
The first fourteen are in public domain aswell. They get new movies every few years, but as Luke said, when one comes out, expect a dozen.

Pulsar_t wrote:When you discuss movies like Argo or Braveheart with other folk there's an alarming tendency for them to take Hollywood's stories as gospel; I have learned to put up with Hollywood's bullshit in name of entertaining dramatisation, but a majority of people take the "based on true story" tag too literally. The airplane chase scene in Argo never took place, and while watching it it struck me as too far-fetched and nonsensical. Is there a line of literary-license-chutzpah Hollywood still hasn't crossed?
"Based on a true story" is the most BS tag around.
To use the "Based on a True Story" or "Inspired by True Events" lines they have to have a certain amount of their story actually happen. Now typically what they will do is take several stories and combine them together - ie Fargo is about murders that did not happen in Minnesota, but the characters are based on real Minnesotains. If you watch the credits really carefully you will always see this fun line:
All characters appearing in this work are fictious, any resembalance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Now sometimes movies get more right than not, and sometimes they have more parts of a true story that they cannot use (Apollo 13 for example). But in the end, movies are for entertainment, not historical reenactment and/or history lesson.

Yeah, Phenomena was disturbingly awesome!

Be sure you have between fifteen to twenty minutes of free time, because you will probably watch the three minute trailer three or five times, and you'll need breaks to analyze what you just watched.

You also need to pay attention to the fine details. Details including how the movie title is different in the trailer than it is in the promotional poster. Details like glasses, multiple gold chains, AND a backwards hat. There's so much going on it is hard to keep up with.

I'm not quite sure what the final title will be, but ladies and gentleman... I am proud to present you with what may be the best movie of 2013. Enjoy.
...why, oh why, in over a century of a film industry, is this film only NOW being produced? It's practically the modern day equivalent of Citizen Kane.

Apocalypse Now.

As far as I know it was the original '79 theatrical cut, not the Redux. It was interesting. I dont want to say I was bored watching it, because I most definitely wasn't. But it also didn't have me on the edge of my seat. Martin Sheen was good though. I love how he is the perfect mix (visually) of his sons Charlie and Emilio. Sheen's always reminded me of my dad. I don't know why, they look nothing alike, lol.

I liked seeing a young skinny Harrison Ford. Robert Duval was magnificent as expected, and while I'm not a huge fan of Marlon Brando, he really did look like a badass as Colonel Kurtz, especially in that scene where he's painted up in face camo. And a little more icing on the cake, as it were - was Dennis Hopper as his typical raving maniacal self.

So I guess I was really impressed with the cast (17 y/o Larry Fishburne FTW) but the film and it's progression was just OK to me. I'd never seen this film before and I figured it was high time to check it out. I'm glad I did. But maybe upon subsequent viewings I'll form more of a fondness for it.

Trivia!: Did you know that George Lucas wrote the first draft of that film? He and Coppola were good friends at the time and they were going to make that film together, but they had a big falling out. Coppola did the film without him and Lucas decided to use his newly-free calendar to make Star Wars. Now you know The Rest Of The Story.

They should totally cast some old school SNL members!
John Belushi...oh, right, nevermind.

Chris Farley...oh, wait, crap.

Phil Hartman...damn it!

Tom Davis? Michael O'Donoghue? Gilda Radner? Charles Rocket? Danitra Vance?

There can only be one Stefon. Not kidding, I think this will happen.

THE INCREDIBLE BURT WONDERSTONE

The last twenty minutes will make you laugh, but the rest of the movie is too short on bringing the funny. Kind of sad that we're living in a time period where all the funny people are not making funny movies. This isn't "That's My Boy" bad, or even bad for that fact, but when you have Carell, Carrey, Buscemi, and even Gandolfini you expect tons of laughs.
When the credit sequence is probably the funniest thing in the movie (tied with the end sausage trick) you expect more.
I didn't go in with high expectations, but I did expect a movie that would deliver hilarity from start to finish. I mean, Carell and Carrey for fudge sake. If these two are going to perform in a comedy, I expect them to bring their A game.

I'll put it this way; I hope everyone has "that friend" who can make PAUL BLART MALL COP hilarious because he or she laughs at everything, making you laugh by proxy. Go see WONDERSTONE with that friend and you'll have a blast. Not saying this film is as bad as MALL COP, but I am saying you may need a nudge or two to laugh until the end of the film.

I like the character, mainly because of how Bill Hader and his partner play the character together. Hader is basically live-fed the lines by cue card when it comes to naming the clubs Stefon suggests. So in effect, they are always a first run, which is why the guy constantly cracks. Other than with Stefon, Hader rarely ever cracks. I love the guy.

But as much as I do laugh at the character, I really don't see a movie being built around him. To me it's like the Night at the Roxbury guys. They were awesome on SNL, but the movie was really dumb.
