I'd say it's like the difference between seeing the ending in Super Mario World vs finding all 96 exits.

Unlike TETRIS B-Mode, how did you exactly beat Dr.Mario?

I don't think "well, no extra viruses" count.

Fun is fun, and this thread is fun, but unless you get an ending screen, "game over/crash" at the final level, or ending credits, you haven't finished the game.

Could be wrong Ack, and I apologize if I am wrong, but I don't think Dr.Mario can be beaten. Seems like you said "Made it to level 20, that'll do".

Well, I smashed the high score and went through the game level by level until the viruses no longer increased, meaning the challenge had ended and I was just doing the same thing over and over again, so...yeah, that's all there is. It's like clearing every level of Tetris, only you could replay the last one ad infinitum.

First off, this is no way intended as a personal attack on Ack. He's a righteous dude.

It's like saying, "I beat THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACKS on my 2600 because I beat level 20 multiple times".

Or am I wrong?

Kind of...does The Empire Strikes Back only repeat after 20 levels? If so - and assuming you set the high score - then I think that you "beat" it. Old games like The Empire Strikes Back or Dr. Mario (or Pac-Man or Q*Bert, etc.) are generally pretty easy to "beat", but very few people "master" them.

My personal criteria for "beating" a game like Dr. Mario (i.e., a game with no credit sequence and no clearly-defined story or ending) is clearing the levels to the point that they repeat ad infinitum (until a kill screen at least) and besting the default high score. If you have accomplished both of these tasks, then you have "beaten" the game.

Ok, I should probably make a note that the original Dr. Mario for the NES does get an ending video after level 20, and the game ends. For the SNES Tetris & Dr. Mario version, the player is awarded with a splash screen that congratulates the player beating level 20 with a picture of one of the three viruses(the other two show up at Congratulation splash screens for beating level 5 and level 10). After that, the game moves to level 21, but to my knowledge the number of viruses is the same.

Certain later versions of Dr. Mario do include more than 20 levels, but those are later releases in the series, such as Dr. Mario 64 or Dr. Mario Online Rx. Now Dr. Mario Online Rx does increase viruses after level 20 up to level 24, where there are 99 of them. After that, it stays the same until level 99. Every time the player beats level 99, they can choose to quit or to replay level 99, but that's it.

2. Hotline Miami - PC
3. Assassin's Creed: Revelations - PC
4. Skate 2 - 360
5. Deponia - PC
6. Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception - PS3

8. The Walking Dead: Episode 1 - 360
9. Assassin's Creed III - PC
10. The Journey Down: Chapter One‏ - PC
11. Aliens: Colonial Marines - PC
12. Tomb Raider - PC
Total for 2013: 12

Tomb Raider - PC
This was a total surprise. I was originally turned off from all the 'Uncharted Clone' talk, but its far from the truth. The game is amazingly entertaining and I could not stop playing it, I finished with 97%, so I have a few small items to find.

The pacing of the game is great, you start just trying to survive, then the game starts to turn it up, you are given new gadgets and skills right up until the end, you are encouraged to go back to old areas and explore once you have new skills (similar to a Metroid title), just all round loved the game.

My total playtime according to Steam was 15 hours (though I did benchmark for awhile before I started). If you are going to play the game by running through you will miss heaps, part of the fun is tracking down relics, etc and finding new gun parts.

I keep going back and forth on whether or not I want to play this game. I have sort of a love/hate thing with Lara LOL. You make it sound interesting.

I have never liked a Tomb Raider before this game, I always found them clunky and could not hold my attention. If you liked Far Cry 3, Uncharted and the Prince of Persia (SoT) games, this is a weird, but well done, mix of all three.

What graphics card were you running it on, emwearz? I've heard NVidia cards have a terrible time while ATI does well.
