Movies are for entertainment. Especially the ones you find in the theater. If people want a history lesson, watch a documentary or read a book. I just finished reading a screenplay about a historical conflict, and it was boring because it focused too much on explaining things instead of telling a story about the characters (like Titanic). Part of it is the fault of the "based on a true story" tag, which would be more accurate if it was "Inspired by a true story". But really, anything that pulls characters or settings out of real life is going to be hacked apart and analyzed by everyone.
Someone was complaining about how school children would be mislead about the story of Lincoln because of the movie. More than anything, that seems to suggest a problem with our education system, not a hollywood movie that's mean to be watched while eating greasy popcorn.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?

I love Dario Argento's work, and this film is a perfect example of why. Every first-person shot from the murderer's point of view, every diabolical murder, every disturbing new clue is masterfully revealed in a manner that seems so bizarre and yet so unexpected. Argento excels in blood, and Deep Red is him at his best. Few films make me pause to take in what I have just watched after each grisly killing, yet I admit that I had to do that in Deep Red, as my mind absorbed what I had just witnessed, often from the view of the murderer.
Perhaps the only complaint I have is that the original US release had so much material cut, and while I have watched the restored film, the missing segments are only voiced in Italian, so characters flip between languages at the drop of a hat. It's a tad distracting to have characters flit between languages almost mid-sentence at times. But that's not a problem with the film itself, and one that I don't blame on it.
I admit that I liked it more than Suspiria. Go watch Deep Red!

Watching Gran Torino. It's one of my favorite movies of all time. Clint Eastwood is awesome in the movie, i just love every aspect of it. I've seen it 50 times, but i still love it.

My personal favorite Argento will always be Phenomena. Easily in my top 10 films of all time actually.Ack wrote:[Deep Red]

The cast is excellent; Donald Pleasance, Jennifer Connelly, and the chimpanzee are all heavily on point. There's Iron Maiden + Motorhead in the soundtrack, the gore is fantastic, the cinematography is dreamy, and the fantastical plot is absurd - which is exactly how I like my Argento.
I'm a bit of a fanboy. Even his ill-received take on Phantom of the Opera entertained the hell out of me.

I don't mean to alarm anyone, but before you watch the link that follows there are a few things you need to do.
Be sure you have between fifteen to twenty minutes of free time, because you will probably watch the three minute trailer three or five times, and you'll need breaks to analyze what you just watched.
You also need to pay attention to the fine details. Details including how the movie title is different in the trailer than it is in the promotional poster. Details like glasses, multiple gold chains, AND a backwards hat. There's so much going on it is hard to keep up with.
I'm not quite sure what the final title will be, but ladies and gentleman... I am proud to present you with what may be the best movie of 2013. Enjoy.

I can't watch it in my country.
But from the looks of it that's probably a good thing...
Oh yeah, last movie I saw was The Child.
It's bad. Really bad. Eric Roberts is such a bad actor he should only be in things like The Bold and the Beautiful...

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (1967) - This is a charming late-1960s comedy about a window washer who, after purchasing the book "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" ascends from the mail room to the board room of a large company over the course of a week. The work environment (and the clotes, hair styles, etc.) in the film is incredibly dated (i.e., all of the women in the office are secretaries and have bouffants, sexual harrassment is no big deal, etc.), and the sets, furniture, ets. are very colorful. Moreover, the film stars Robert Morse, who played the main character (J. Pierpont Finch) in the original stage production, is incredibly funny, and really should have been in more films...and...oh yeah...it's a fuckin' musical

(I did not know that going in, but the picture above shows my basic reaction when the characters broke out in song for the first time.)
In any event, I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would, and I highly recommend it. (You can stream it on Netflix!)
