Post by MoNsTeRzKHAOS »

I have a NTSC-U Sega Saturn and was planning on buying an cart to play Japanese and PAL games, but first I would like to know if there is a way that I can translate games like Shining Force and Gundam to english.

You will need to patch the game, then burn it.

You can then play it via a swap trick method (there is a video in my sig) or by installing a mod chip.

List of Saturn translations.

Edit: ^ Beat me to it!

There must be patches available for some of the more popular Japanese exclusives, do some googling and look for translation patches for the game you're interested in, then look for a tutorial that explains how to patch the translation to the original Japanese rom and subsequently burn it to CD.

Alright thanks! Do you need the Action Replay cart for this or is it just better to have it?

AR lets you play imports.

Modchip lets you play burns.

If you're patching a copy you're going to need a modchip anyway and you can just patch the region while you're at it. So figure out what you want to do from there.

PAL games get forced into 60hz. OK for many titles, a few will have issues.

Fixing that takes a separate mod and compatible TV.
Neither AR, modchip, or region free bios, affects the video setting.
Lum fan.
