Not that rum has anything to do with whiskey, but yes, rum and coke go well together.

If I'd have to choose, I'd choose rum & coke over whiskey cola any day...

But if I'd have to go for taste alone, I'd go with a good rose liqueur...

Not very manly so it seems, but who cares. It's a just a drink...

Rose liqueur does not really take the edge off though...

Hence the request for a good tequila...

In that case I'm going to suggest sambuca. That stuff is good on the rocks or shaken with ice but never warm. It's very sweet.

I don't like pastis and absinthe, so I doubt I would like sambuca...

I used to like amaretto a few years ago, but I find it tastes cheap and way too sugary now...

1. Does it get you drunk?

2. Is it cold?

If you answered yes to those 2 questions, then it's good!

Anyways, I think I'm gonna try that Patron tequila. Looks like that one's got the most votes for now...

I've encountered tequila that smelled like varnish. I'm sure it would get me drunk as well as violently ill. Chilling it would not help not make it good.

Meh. Most of the hard stuff tastes like gasoline going down anyways whether it be tequila, whiskey, vodka, whatever; as far as straight shots go. When it comes to drinks, I think it's far more important how well you can mix the drinks.

A thousand times disagreed. If what you're drinking tastes like gasoline, then it's time for you to try better liquor. Try Glenlivet scotch, Johnnie Walker whiskey, or Milagros Reposado tequila. Your tongue and throat will thank you.

Yes harder stuff will have more burn once you start getting into higher alcohol content, but good quality 80ish proof liquor can be fairly smooth. I'm quite enamored with Seagram's 7 Stone Cherry whiskey right now as it is reasonably priced, tasty, and pretty smooth for the price IMHO.

Pouring cheap vodka through a pitcher style water filter a few times does help. I did it once with McCormick or Popov or some other horrible cheap vodka brand before. It was still not great, but it was significantly less like paint stripper.

While I agree with this for the most part, I have found times when the expensive stuff tastes just as much as rubbing alcohol as the cheap stuff.

Of course, it all comes down to a person's tolerance and taste, but like everything else expensive does not always equal good.
