Maybe not, but it still did the job. It was one of the most unexpected and disturbing scenes I've ever seen. Ruined the entire movie for me.AppleQueso wrote:Clerks 2 isn't really "vulgarity for vulgarity's sake" though.BurningDoom wrote:Waitaminute. You're complaining about some drinking and fart jokes, but give Clerks 2 the pass?! SERIOUSLY?! It had a freaking donkey show in it for crying out loud!Retrodude wrote:Finally someone who agrees with me! Comedy films are mostly terrible these days because producers think vulgarity for vulgarity's sake is comedy gold. It isn't. It's possible to do it well (i.e. Clerks 2), but there aren't that many people who know how to do it. I'm convinced that the only reason movies like The Hangover get good reviews is because the critics are terrified of looking uncool. If a comedy film is rated R for language, that's fine, but if it's rated R for "crude and sexual humor", I pass. I'm more disappointed than anything because some of these movies could have been good if they'd only pulled it back a little bit and made it PG13 instead (Harold And Kumar, for instance).

The look on Dante's face when Rosario danced on the roof killed it for me.
Didn't the donkey show only consist of five seconds of a guy smacking a donkey's butt?

You know, that was about 500 pages ago on this thread. We watch a lot of movies around here.Michi wrote:I've been telling everyone that since last year.Ack wrote:
What the hell did I just watch?!? That was less a film and more a surrealist fever dream with a horror story attached.

Of course, if I had to guestimate, I'd say at least 30+ of those pages in between had to do solely with people discussing Dark Night Rises

Don't forget Prometheus!Michi wrote:Of course, if I had to guestimate, I'd say at least 30+ of those pages in between had to do solely with people discussing Dark Knight Rises

...or The Avengers...or Cabin In the Woods...Outside the month of October, I often think that this thread should simply be re-titled the "Let's Talk About Mass-Market Science Fiction and Super Hero Movies" thread...Stark wrote:Don't forget Prometheus!Michi wrote:Of course, if I had to guestimate, I'd say at least 30+ of those pages in between had to do solely with people discussing Dark Knight Rises

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Maybe we should do more theme-months then. Like everybody has to watch classic sci fi in June or some such.

Prometheus! Yes! That's the other one I was forgetting! That and Avengers is probably another 20+ pages each right there.Stark wrote:Don't forget Prometheus!Michi wrote:Of course, if I had to guestimate, I'd say at least 30+ of those pages in between had to do solely with people discussing Dark Knight Rises
Cheesy, corny, painful to watch romantic comedy February?Ack wrote:Maybe we should do more theme-months then. Like everybody has to watch classic sci fi in June or some such.
Martial Arts March?
Michael Bay May?
Extravagant action packed movie July?
After school special September?
Famous B-Movie November?
It's A Wonderful Life on constant repeat December?

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
It's fine. There are plenty of other places on the Internet to discuss movies, and people on here should be able to discuss whatever they desire...even if the ad infinitum discussion regarding the merits of various super hero movies does become tiresome.Ack wrote:Maybe we should do more theme-months then. Also, you can call me crazy, but I don't think that "Tom Hanks Romantic Comedy" month would be a big hit around here. (Although, I would love to to see a few pages discussing the merits of "Joe vs. The Volcano".)
...and finally, I just realized that "House" is available for streaming on Hulu+. I am definitely watching it this weekend.
