PS2 play PS1 R-type Delta?

Post by Spyke »

Hi.

I've got a PAL PS2 SCPH-70003 model console.
I bouht a PAL version of R-type Delta and tried to play it.
The Playstation logo boots up, then the screen goes blank and I get a "Not Support" message. Should the PS2 play same-region PS1 games ok?

I'm using component output - think that'd be the problem?

I can check my US ones later just for comparison. I think I've only played mine on my PS1.

Your TV most likely does not support a lower res like 240P which the game will use when played via component cables. It is a fairly common problem with HDTV's.

Is your console modded in any way shape or form? If your running FMCB you can install a program to force the game into 480i/576i and it should play via component.

you can try that (using composite), and see if it works.

i had a similar issue when i was playing Gradius III (PS2) with component and my screen just went blank black after i pressed start from the title screen (from what i recall). when i used composite, it works with no problem.

FWIW, a US copy of RTD on a US PS2 over component works fine.

I presumed you were getting the red message from the PS2 saying it was an unsupported disc, not an unsupported signal from your TV as others seem to be thinking.

I think the not support message originates from the tv as i can still hear the game running in background but no visual. I do have a hdboxpro and slg3000 arriving soon so might be able to force the output into a low-res option using them.

My xomponent cable runs all other games (inc Gradius III) fine...

PS1 games on PS2 will have issues over component on HD TVs sometimes. I've had video issues w/ cutscenes and save screens mostly. On a SD TV w/ component I have seen no such issues.

Ok yeah, you'd know if it was the PS2 giving you the message. It would be red clouds and saying something about inserting a proper format disc. Put in a disc from a PC or another console and see what I thought you meant.

I must have a look for my composite lead. Did rummage last night but couldn't find it! Ok, thanks for the tips,
