Not to be an ass or anything, but I'm amazed not a single person in this thread is talking about Paul Bearer being dead.

Seriously, though. It is sad. I didn't say anything because there was really nothing more to add from link in your initial report. We lost a great wrestling personality.

I thought the Paul Bearer tributes throughout the show tonight were fantastic. Taker kicking off the show was the perfect tribute without breaking character.

I was pleasantly surprised. They did pretty much exactly what I was imagining in my head last week.

Re-uniting the brothers of destruction - Check!
Focusing heavily on the urn as a symbol of Paul Bearer - Check!
Awesome tribute video package - Check!

Perfect!

It's great when the WWE is thinking like me. I love that old video they showed where Bearer's dress ends up on Mr. Fuji too

Thank you, Jim Ross. I'm so tired of that ridiculous argument that Taker losing one match at Mania ruins the legacy of his streak, and tired of hearing that him losing doesn't benefit anyone. It amazes me that even guys like Wade Keller hold this silly viewpoint. Sometimes Ross is the only voice of reason in the wrestling world

"So, does Taker being 20-1 at WrestleMania's adversely affect his legacy? Not in my view. However, does beating the Undertaker at WrestleMania essentially make Punk even more special? Absolutely.

A Punk win at WM29 would essentially punch Punk's WWE HOF ticket and whether the outspoken Punk would admit it or not, being inducted into the WWE HOF is an amazing honor even for the most devout of individuals. " - Jim Ross

http://allwrestling.com/news/49173/jim- ... g-punk-vs/

A Punk win fits his character so much. Punk breaks the rules, laughs at the status quo, and smashes the glass ceiling. That's the sort of guy that would be able to end the streak. Also, beating Taker once again makes him, "the best in the world!" That means more than just winning the title

It won't happen though :(

My dream scenario would have seen Punk still champ going into Mania, and at some point prior to Mania, we'd see him, Lesnar, and The Shield in the ring together pretty much acknowledging that there's an unofficial alliance there with the champ being the head of the beast. You could still have your separate Mania feuds for Lesnar and The Shield, but have the fans always worrying about potential interference from them during the Taker match. You could have had the longest reigning champion in the past two or three decades going into Mania with possible back up from four guys who have been running rough shod over the WWE in Lesnar and The Shield. Even if Punk lost, the build up to the match and the suspense while it was actually taking place would have been amazing. Even moreso if Lesnar and The Shield won their respective matches, thus making them quite likely to be fit enough to do a run in during the Punk/Taker match. It would have been the real main event, even if you have Cena/Rock on the show and that's saying something. I'd have booked it as the match to end the show. Streak versus streak, 20-1. Punk buries the dead man.

Lesnar would be a much more credible person to end the streak. Not deserving, but credible. If Lesnar would return full time and work for a complete year, it would be more special if Taker would loose to him at WM 30 (and it should be in Madison Square Garden).

At Wrestlemania, Punk will have seemed to have won the match but while pinning the Undertaker, the Taker grabs Punk by the throat, slowly rises to his feet and defeats CM with a choke slam.

After the bell rings, the crowd is invited with a loud "Ohhhh Yessssssss!", and Paul Bearer materializes out of thin air into the ring. He and Undertaker share an embrace, Taker's theme music starts, the lights fade to black, and both vanish never to be seen again.

Hey, a guy can dream.

That could work, he's fought Taker before so he's already got a history of being able to go toe to toe with the Dead Man. He would HAVE to beat Triple H at this year's Mania for them to set that up though. Paul Heyman could drop a good promo about how Lesnar has beaten the man who nearly ended Taker's career two years in a row and that Taker is next on Lesnar's hit list.

I don't want Lesnar to be the guy to end the streak though, but at this point I'd like to see anyone end it....except Cena.

Lesnar/Taker would have to be a brutal match, nothing pretty about it. I don't know if Taker can handle that at his age and in his physical condition. Although they could have Lesnar go old school and wrestle like he did years ago on Smackdown, instead of that UFC inspired fighting style we see him use now.
