Paul W.S. Anderson (not to be confused with the very talented Paul Thompson Anderson) has written every single Resident Evil movie. He didn't direct 2 and 3, be he wrote all of them.

They're like his projects. He's producing, directing, and writing them, who else am I suppose to blame? Sony? I mean, I can try ...

I actually like some of his movies, Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon for example, but he was only the director on those flicks, likely having less say on the overall project. When he has complete control over stuff ... it tends to be shit. (Resident Evil, AvP, Death Race, etc)

I'm looking forward to watching IP Man for sure. If the goddamn mail is ever going to show up! (It's freaking 6PM!)

Didn't realize that. I thought he was only the director.

Event Horizon, BTW, is one of my all-time favorite horror films. So much better than most of the Resident Evil films. I did really like the first Resident Evil movie, though, it's the sequels that were bad, IMO.

The first one is less terrible because of plot and more terrible because of acting. I agree that the sequels are definitely worse. (I actually liked Extinction, though)

And, Event Horizon is awesome. I love that movie. It's one of my favorites too. Sometimes, I don't believe he actually had anything to do with it >_> It's just hard to fathom given his filmography.

Ugh. I watched that movie because the premise was pretty cool, but then it just turned into a dumb haunted house flick with a girl with huge nipples.

I hated it.

...Event Horizon is about a spaceship that can go through black holes and becomes possessed...

Exactly. The first half of that is the cool premise that made me want to watch it. But then it turned into a dumb haunted house flick. Ship = house. It was almost what the movie SPHERE *could* have been, with the ship traveling the universe/black holes, etc. Although SPHERE sucked as well, so that's neither here nor there.

I've never been a fan of horror, so I just found it dumb. They just took a cool idea, and turned it into a haunted house. It's dumb.

I should say that, for the record, I thought you were originally complaining about Resident Evil but had accidentally pulled the wrong part of someone's quote, since you pretty much described the first RE film.

I agree with you there. It started out cool, but after the turning point, it just got silly and ham fisted to me. Every time there was something that was supposed to be creepy going on, it just came across as terribly cheesy to me. Been a while since the one time I watched it so I can't remember if it was the dialog, the performance, or both. The idea and sets were cool, but it just didn't work for me. Oh well, got a cool soundtrack by Michael Kamen and Orbital out of it.
