Boxed Japanese Gamecube games are even smaller.

Why are arcade stick parts so expensive?

Why do so many gamers have this "Only my console/game franchise is the best and all others suck" mentality?

How many gaming forums have you been to where this is the main focus of discussion?

Why wouldn't gamers want a wide variety of franchises, consoles, and characters available for them to enjoy?

Eh, the GC cases are a little thinner, but larger in the other directions. The GG box being on top makes it look wider, but it is about 1/4 inch skinnier.

Smaller than a boxed Famicom cart too which is smaller than the GC case too other than thickness.

I stand corrected, seeing this kind of stuff always makes me wish we would have gotten this kind of smart and intelligently designed packaging here. Albeit in a plastic clam shell form of course.

It happens in any fandom. Domestic vs import cars or Chevy vs Ford vs Mopar. This team vs that team. Pens vs pencils.

The problem here is the 'bigger is better' mentality that led to the early US disc game casing and also larger packaging to try and deter theft. You had to be crafty to stuff a record in your jacket or dress, but a cassette or a CD are easy. Before switching to those reusable snap in case holders, CDs came in longboxes and then clear clamshells with the case at the bottom and the booklet at the top. It somewhat to do with making them tall to fit in old record bins and somewhat to make them look larger, more valuable, and harder to slip in your clothing and walk out with them.

Does Japan simply not have as big a shoplifting problem as we do or something?

How does it compare to a japanese game boy box? Those things are freakin' tiny.

From your pictures, it seems to me that the game boy boxes might be a bit thinner.
