Hi guys. Just got a hold of a Dreamcast that came with a few back ups.
A couple of them work and the rest are pretty scratched so do not work.
When trying to burn my own games the Dreamcast will only open them up as a audio but when I click on play it says insert a game.
I have tried discjuggler, imgburn and 120% alcohol and ended up with the same result.
Can any one help?

Happens to me sometimes too. Each Dreamcast has its own personality! I can always get it to work after a few tries though.
A few things to think about:
-The disc might actually be too scratched
-Did you burn it slowly? Try 4x or 1x speed, not maximum. This should make it easier for your console to read.
-Is it a model 2 Dreamcast? Older burns won't work on it.
-Is it a self-booting image? If it doesn't start up right away, try using a bootdisc.
You might want to consider emulation too. Less trouble if your computer can handle it.

The disc's I am doing are brand new and the lowest I can burn at is 16x.
It is a version 1 dreamcast and I have tried making a utopia disc which does not work either.
Even the self booting games take ages to read then the Dreamcast will open up the audio display so I come out of that and click on play and it says insert games.

Your Dreamcast has been around the block! If you play burnt discs on the DC after a while
somehow the lens will only read actual game discs not backups. I've heard a couple people have this same problem. After some time I suspect that the lens will crap out completely, so either you replace the laser/lens or get a new console if you wanna keep playing.

hi robgti .........try cleaning the Laser Lens and test your backups again.
also what brand/model burner do you have ?
and what CD-R's are you using ?
this can be caused by a poor burner and media..............
