I'm going on a trip in April for about a week, and I'm thinking of buying a new handheld to go along.
A few of my friends told me that it isn't really worth it, anyone have any opinions on this? If I do get one I'll probably play the PSO game for it when it comes out, so online play will matter some what.
I haven't had a handheld since Gameboy Color, so I'm way out of the loop in terms of how good Wifi is for handhelds these days.
Is the 3G worth it on the PSVita?

Not really; no games support online play via 3G yet. Unless you don't already have a smartphone, there is little point in getting 3G unless you've got money to burn. Heck, you could even tether your smartphone data connection to the Vita and get free data that way.

Wait what? you can't play online on 3G? Really? I was about to buy one to play Phantasy Star online. So you are telling me I would need WI-Fi connection to play?lisalover1 wrote:Not really; no games support online play via 3G yet. Not that I know of. The closest thing the Vita has to 3G online play is downloading levels in LittleBigPlanet. You can only play over 3G if you tether your phone to your Vita, thus tricking it into thinking it is connected to WiFi, when it is actually connected to your phone's network.Toktogul wrote:Wait what? you can't play online on 3G? I was told that you indeed can play PSO2 Vita on 3G, granted the connection will suck similar to playing an MMO on 3G Android.. Expect 4 digit latency's etc.. .
Here is an article that supports this:

Hmm well now I'M not gonna buy a VITA. I can't setup my own apartment WIFI hahaha. i dont see myself going to the internet cafe for 3-4 hours everyday to play games

Update :
My friend bought PSO2 and he is using the 3G connection to play. It's a bit laggier than Wifi but it works. Maybe it's just Japan tough, they have a special fast connection plan with Docomo, i'm not sure the US is offering it.

Well PSO2 isn't out here, so it should work the same. There are also some games that take advantage of it like Persona 4: Golden, you can see what other people decided to do for each day.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.
