What shmup have you "rediscovered"

Post by Spyke »

While poking around on my game shelves tonight I found some old PS1 discs that I'd got when I got my console off ebay. I'd not really looked through them as they didn't seem to appeal to me.

At the time I got them, the only R-type game I'd played was R-type Final, which I really didn't like.

So, one of the discs was R-type Delta. So I booted it up and watched the demo... then wondered why I hadn't taken notice of it before?

Then I started playing it...

I've got R-types as well, which I like but find quite stubbornly challenging. R-type delta felt like a lot more fun and graphics-wise looked like it would have been quite groundbreaking when it came out for the PS1.

So I've "discovered" a brilliant game I didn't even know I had, of if I did I hadn't seen fit to pay it any attention!

You discovered anything in your collections recently? ;)

Last weekend, my brother and I got together and decided to play some SNES. We popped in Super Bomberman 2, and many hours passed. It's easy to forget just how GOOD games were in that area.

Can't blame her -- OP needs to be updated to "What shmup have you rediscovered" if it's going to be in this subforum.

For me through high score threads it was Aero Fighters & Strikers 1945. 2 great series that taste great playing through them and staying in the thick of AF3 as well as hitting those 1-4 Psikyo walls, TOGETHER!

I was recently digging through my psx collection and found a copy of Gekioh Shooting King. I popped it in and played for HOURS before I realized I had forgotten to go to sleep -_- I had forgotten what a great game it was.

There's been a "Shienryu" itch in the back of my mind for a little while now. It's time to pop it in the PS2 again I think.... ;)
