PSP or Vita

Post by SpaceBooger »

I'm thinking I may get a Sony hand held. I found both a PSP and a Vita for a good deal.

I love cheap used games so I think the $60 cheaper PSP is what I would want, but I am a PS+ member until September and think the free games/cross buy (pinball) for the Vita would be nice too.

I am leaning toward a 3000 PSP because of the price of both the system and games... what do you guys think.

For now: PSP. Most quality titles are under $20 new, memory sticks are cheap, and the system is JRPG heaven.

The Vita is a great handheld and has some wonderful titles (don't let the "lol, vita has no gaems" comments fool ya). But until there's a price drop (or another sale like the amazon black friday event) you're better off waiting. And the longer you wait the more titles you'll have to choose from.

/my two cents.

The PSP 2000 is great for homebrew. Though the 3000 may have been cracked by now. I haven't kept up

There are plenty of good games and apps and emulators for the PSP2000

I want to get a Vita this year whenever I can afford it though. Just the thought of finally having a handheld that can play current console games is awesome to me. I've finished Sly 4, but would love to go through it again on a handheld just to see what that's like. You have to realize that I still vividly remember what it's like to play games on a black and white Gameboy, so seeing how far we've come is exciting.

I'd vote Vita. PSP games look much much better on the Vita too. Color and clarity are much improved. And the glass looks a lot better than the cheap easily scratched plastic.
My B/S/T thread! :)

I have a psp 3000 with CFW, they are as easy to hack as any other psp. I actually dont have any interest in buying a Vita because of it. Its so nice to be able to travel and have an all in one console with literally thousands of games in my pocket. Emulation on the psp is awesome, it even does GBA well. I probably wont pick up a vita until it to is fully hacked for emulation and the prices of memory cards come down.

And that is why I want it. Cheap games that can be found new or used.

From what I understand, PSP games (cheap versions on disc) can not be played on a Vita, so I would have to buy PSP games via PSN or just get Vita games, right?

Yes. If you just want cheap games or pirated games then a PSP is recommended. But I will note that the PSP 3000 has a major interlacing issue. I can't stand it.

Its barely noticable in game I only notice it when quickly searching though games in the main menu and its alot better than the ghosting of the psp 1000s

I don't want to pirate, I'm just trying to figure out if I should pay the extra $60 for a vita and then only play my PS+ games, or spend less and get some cheap PSP games.

How does playing PSP games on Vita work anyway? Can you use hard copies of the PSP for the Vita?

I'm in a similar dilemma. Part of me wants to give myself a treat for buying a console when it is new, but PSP seems like the more logical choice.
