Top 5 DS/3DS games

Post by SNKnicotine »

Present your top 5 DS/3DS games

1.Resident Evil Deadly Silence- Who doesn't love a RE remake !!

2.Dementium: The Ward- this game goes to show you, you don't need Hi res graphics to make a great game. This Horror/survival game actually produces scares that become the thing of nightmares. Might as well play on the toilet unless you want to buy new pants and shoes.

3.Resident Evil Revelations- Best Recent release RE game.

4.Pokemon Heart Gold (or series in general)

5.Little Red Riding Hood's ZOMBIE BBQ- a unique shoot em up, with tons of funny dialogue, and Zombified fairy tale characters.

Looking back, it's amazing how much time I have spent playing my DS. It's probably my most-played gaming console ever. So many of my favorite series either bloomed to fruition or were born altogether on the DS, and I can't say that for a lot of consoles. That's kind of shocking when I stop to think about it. So, making a list like this is going to be difficult. Let's give it a shot, though...

5. Harvest Moon DS
A controversial choice, but I stand by my opinion that HMDS is the best in the series. It may not have the most visual flair or the nice RPG elements added in Rune Factory, but it executes the core elements of what make Harvest Moon games great better than any other game in the series. I played this game until the battery in the cartridge wore out, and STILL was never able to truly "beat" the game.

4. Mario Kart DS
Another personal "Best In Series" pick for me, MKDS had great controls, a stellar selection of tracks, challenging bonus missions, and of course, the best multiplayer the series had ever seen. I remember hanging out in restaurants in my neighborhood just so I could use the Wi-Fi to play Mario Kart online. If it weren't for the cheaters, this game would be perfect.

3. Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
See? Educational games can be fun if they are backed up by an engaging story! The third Layton game polished the series' system of puzzles to a mirror shine, and told a great story that engaged you from start to finish. Adding to that some stellar animation and a charming art style, and you have one of the best puzzle games ever made.

2. Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations
I pretty much love this game for the same reasons as Layton. It has a great story that is told over the course of the game's 5 cases, and ends with the best climax in the series. The series' logic-crunching expertise is on full display here, with every decision rewarding you and bringing you closer to the truth. When I first got this game, I stayed up for nights on end playing through it, just to see the end.

1. Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!
I. Love. This. Game. I don't know what else to say other than that I love this game. It's my favorite rhythm game of all time, and kept me coming back for years thanks to its catchy songs, super-challenging gameplay, and the huge sense of reward when you finally beat a song. The delightfully wacky manga art style is complemented by the energetic soundtrack and silly stories told during each of the songs. This was also the game that got my friends at High School into import gaming a few years back, since everyone wanted their own copy. Oh, and the multiplayer is crazy fun, too. This game is as close to perfect as any game in the genre can get, and that is why it is my favorite DS game of all time.

Thanks for the list and detail

Always interested in hearing what DS games I SHOULD be playing. But every time I buy a DS/3DS I never end up using it. Not sure what my problem is. :(

In no real order just throwing them out there

DS:
1. Final Fantasy Echoes of Time - an excellent ARPG on the handheld, with soso netcode, but a rock solid wifi multiplayer for up to four players. They took everything that made FFCC and FFCC Rings of Fate good and made it perfect.

2. Professor Layton Curious Village - despite the common belief, I think the first game was the best. It is a point and click adventure, meets puzzle minigames, and just excellent. Great voice acting, amazing art style, and heartwarming to boot.

3. Mario Kart DS - take the best Mario Kart (64), add more stages, options, and online play. As much as I hated the snaking, well it was an awesome ride. And I still enjoy it, I just wish I could emulate the wifi mode so I could run it across all my pcs...

4. Advance Wars Days of Ruin - a post apocalyptic version of Advance Wars with a different graphics style. It gave the game an interesting turn and I think made it better. The first and second titles in the Advance Wars line are the best of the Nintendo Wars games, but Days of Ruin was a very interesting take that was a whole mess of a lot of fun - and alot better than Dual Strike.

5. Chrono Trigger - now while it is originally an SNES game, the DS version corrected all of the bugs, and added in the cutscenes from the PSX version. Many people view this as the best version, and I have to agree.

Runner ups:
Contra 4
Final Fantasy III
Harvest Moon DS
Nostalgia
Jump Super Stars
Club House Games
Zelda Twilight Tracks - I still dont like Phantom Hourglass
Picross 3d
Pokemon Heart Gold
Pokemon White
Soma Bringer - could have been awesome, but had some issues

As for the 3ds, I only own five titles so:
Zelda, Mario, Starfox - all good as you would expect
Skylanders - race platformer, not what I expected. Not bad, but not memorable.
Heroes of Ruin - ARPG that could have been awesome, but dont buy it and buy Torchlight 2 on the PC instead. Heroes has several major bugs and is just clunky.

I don't have a definitive list in my mind but I know Fire Emblem: Awakening would likely be at the top of it. This game has me completely absorbed. I've already put 15 hours into it and I'm not even phased. Which is not normal for me, as I tend to start losing interest in most single player games after 5 or 6 hours.

I really enjoyed Metroid Prime: Hunters when that came out but I'm not so sure it has held up well.

Have you played Dementium II? It's even better than the original.

I'd have a tough time listing my Top 5 for either platform because I'm just terrible at ranking games that way. I agree, however, that RE: Revelaitons is a fantastic game and a refreshing surprise considering how average the series has been recently.

DS just has an ENORMOUS library of games that I'm still discovering on a daily basis. For example, I didn't even know they released a Chibi Robo for DS so I'm tracking that down now. The library is so vast and varied that it will take me forever to get everything I'd want for it.

The DS library is too vast to limit myself to five titles; so, I will not even make an effort.

The five best 3DS games (in my opinion and based on my limited experience) are:

1. Super Mario 3D Land - It is like a portable Super Mario Galaxy that puts the 3DS's 3D capabilities to stunning use.

2. Cave Story 3D - This is the best version of the classic PC game. It is very fun; its simple story can be quite moving; and it can be incredibly challenging.

3. Theatrhythm Final Fantasy - This is a wonderful music/rhythm game with RPG elements. It exploits nostalgia for classic Final Fantasy games in a good way, and the core gameply mechanics are very sound.

4. Shinobi - "8-bit Ninja Gaiden" + "16-bit Shinobi" + modern, 3D graphics = AWESOME GAME!!!

5. New Super Mario Bros. 2 - This game is like your favorite meal at a familiar restaurant. Sure, you've had it before - and it doesn't taste as good as the first time you tried it - but it always leaves you satisfied and looking forward to your next visit.

Agreed. The size of my DS library beats out every other system I have aside from PCs, which isn't a fair comparison.
