The bad thing about unleashX is that it isn't really a true media center, With xbmc you have full computer storage interface and excellent categorization. For example I have all of the simpsons by season and movies in various categories from Sci-Fi to Comedy and the music visualizations are FAR more impressive than the ones on even the xbox360.

If you just want to turn on your xbox pick a game and play unleashX is great, But if you want to really organize your stuff go with xbmc.

everyone loves xbmc, but i think the interface is clunky and looks horrible.

I don't use my xbox for any kind of media stuff though. Just games. UnleashX works fine for me. It also has a program that rips your existing xbox games to the harddrive if you are into that kinda thing. XBMC doesn't. You have to ftp them to the machine.

I'm not sure which xbmc you have seen or used, But the one I'm talking about looks just like the interface on the xbox360 and you can have ANY program made for modded xbox's integrated into it (and even setup other dashboards including unleashx, I have four on mine). You CAN rip games(or ANY other data) with xbmc I use dvd2xbox or just the program that comes with xbmc, You do not have to ftp anything to the system if you don't want to (I have ripped entire seasons of shows as well as emulators and games with no problem).

you are apparently right. I didn't know they had a skin for the xbmc that looks like the 360. Don't know about the ripping thing though. Didn't look very hard, i'll take your word for it.

I think I know what you're talking about, The original xbmc was kind of crappy and didn't have many options.

There is also a new skin that makes it look like apple tv with a lot of the same features.

The skin's called MC360 its the best skin IMO with all the addons, looks good in 720p but project mayhem skin also looks good. Get T3CH releases of xmbc they include the most useful scripts and latest xbmc fixes. http://t3ch.yi.se/

Best way to rip game through xbmc is dvd2xbox its very easy and friendly. If only using xbox for games use a regular unleashx with skins but do have xbmc as an app just in case, otherwise use xbmc as the dash.

Single boot or dual boot is for booting into regular dash or soft mod install mode which you can use to sort out problems. Mine is setup to boot the sid if you turn it on with the tray out, but you probably don't need this since you can also mess up things. The color of the light can be changed in the dash or xbmc setup, you can also turn it off or tell it to turn off if you are watching a movie. For emulators I always use sofmod installer deluxe that come with bundled one you can just install with a button press but I rarely use those. There's also a MAME disc I got the other day full with games all ready to run, so there should be lots emu packs available.

thanks for the info about the single and double boot. I went with the single boot, but i wasn't real sure what the difference was.

Main reason for dual boot is to keep original dash for xbox live.

I have mine backed up just in case but since softmodding my xbox years ago I've never booted into the original xbox dashboard. UnleashX and XBMC are 1000x times better/faster/easier.
