Paul Williams: Still Alive

I'm sure plenty of people here know who Paul Williams is, and if you don't, I guarantee you've heard one of his songs at some point in your life.

Still Alive is a documentary on the man and it's pretty interesting. It's not a standard doc, as Williams told the director that he could follow him around as long as he had a gig, but didn't allow him to just hang around him 24 hours a day. But it was pretty cool to see that the guy was still around, and still gigging, just not as much as when he was in his hey day. Also, there's a scene showing Tarantino talking (though its just footage you dont hear what hes saying) and the director states that Tarantino talked about "how much he loved Ishtar."

Just another reason I love Tarantino.

Then again, I'm a huge film buff, so the Oscars is like the Super Bowl for me.

Fan of the man, yes. He found a way to get his fans to build his empire for him. If his fans didn't purchase the Family Guy dvd's he'd be a has been, but the guy is super business savvy. His humor, no. The lcd of humor is shock jokes which is all he does. If Sarah Silverman did a routine of "I saw your Junk" it would have been equally as stupid and juvenile. But Seth knows his fan base and dumbs it down as much as possible.

I love Kevin Smith's earlier work, but it wasn't all dick and fart jokes. Seth writes solely for teenage boys and I don't personally know anyone who finds his humor anything but (again) juvenile.

I'm a bit of a film buff myself, and the Oscars are like a drawn out infomercial to me. Phoenix was robbed (Tommy Lee Jones was the best actor in Lincoln), and although I agree with most of the award winners, it's mostly politics.

But you are right about your comparison of the Oscars and the Super Bowl; It's way too long, way too over-hyped, the pre-game show lasts forever, and the better team doesn't always win.

Are we talking about the same Seth McFarlane? I would say he relies MUCH more on pop-culture for his humor than he does dick and fart jokes. If you didn't live in or enjoy the 80s, then you won't get like 90% of his jokes. I'm a big 80s nostagia junkie, so I get like every one of his jokes and enjoy McFarlane.

Someone like Tom Green is someone that I would point out as relying on dick and fart jokes, rather than Seth McFarlane.

You can't argue that his "humor" isn't juvenile and dumb, and that if you did live in the 80's the worse his "jokes" are.

His jokes = "Hey! Remember this shit? Funny huh?".

I easily tune out those overwrought awards thingies.. in the age of the tattered collective that is the Internet I find the Oscars to be just too mainstreamly convenient.

I'll see your cheesy fun Bio Zombie and raise you the cheesier, but must be watched through MST3k, Zombie Nightmare. It is hilarious in its bad acting and cheapness.

On a more serious note, Dead Alive (aka Braindead) if you haven't seen it yet.

Oh and Night of the Creeps was pretty good too. I just watched that a couple weeks ago.

Why only 80s/90s? Have you seen Fido yet? It's a great zombie film that only misses your bill because it came out in 2006.
