Testament pretty easily ranks rock bottom as far as the big name thrash bands go if you ask me. Not a bad band, but just... not particularly great either. Of course, I'm not a super huge thrash fan in general, but eh.

Overkill kicks ass.

Wow, Havok, where have you been all my life? This kicks ass!

I really like Gama Bomb, but Citizen Brain is a much better album than Tales from the Grave in Space. But I also like their Philly Byrne and his ability to suddenly belt into a scream. Evil Voices is a particular favorite of mine:

Also, they have a new album coming out in April! I can't wait!

As for the band Bonded by Blood, I enjoyed their Feed the Beast album but didn't care for Exiled to Earth as much. I haven't listened to The Aftermath yet, but multiple members of the band were replaced, so I doubt it will sound the same. But here's a sample from Feed the Beast:

Evile...I like some of their songs(Thrasher is awesome), but I haven't gotten to hear a lot, and what I have heard is sometimes mixed. The song Cult didn't impress me much. Honesty though, I kinda wrote these guys off after the sudden death of Mike Alexander in 2009. I shouldn't have.

Also, where is the discussion of Municipal Waste in this thread! Municipal Waste is fucking awesome!!! And if you don't think so, get absolutely smashed and then listen.

What do you guys think of bands like Blood Tsunami, Toxic Holocaust, Warbringer, etc?

I enjoyed what I'd heard of Toxic Holocaust.

My favorite "thrash revival" band is definitely Cross Examination though.

it's all about Evile, Power Trip, and Vektor (even though they have a bit of a black metal side, they're still a thrash band at heart to me).

oh! also, the new Destruction record is fucking awesome and totally worth your time. the new Helloween isn't half bad either.

anyhoo, anybody planning on catching bolt thrower on this current jaunt they're on? i live in indy so i'll probably be making the drive to chicago to see them in may.

WAIT WHAT.

Dammit the one gig in Texas and it's on a night I have to work.

Austin's a bit too far away anyway. Sad.

Any way I could get you to attempt to nab me a t-shirt if you go, aaron?

I'm going to have to check out some of these new Thrash bands. I haven't gotten much of a chance yet though.

On the other hand, I'm having trouble finding symphonic bands I don't like. Is there anything not fronted by women/black metal vocals? I like Nightwish and Kamelot, and some Epica, but some of this stuff is getting stuck to a formula.

Therion
Ayreon (The Human Equation and 01011001 are really good)

If you're not totally burned out on the female fronted bands, I'd suggest
Delain
Leaves' Eye's Meredead album
Revamp with Floor Jansen (who apparently is the new Nightwish singer)

I'm fine with Testament, I had a phase where I played and listened to their stuff pretty regularly. I certainly would not consider them rock bottom thrash. They have some genuinely great tracks and one of the most talented guitarists of the era. Alex Skolnick plays most 80s thrash greats under the table.

I would rank them in the middle, with Kreator and Exodus, probably.

I only meant among the "big name" bands, basically the bands that pretty much everybody into thrash knows.

I could definitely think of some seriously shitty rock bottom thrash bands. Thrash Queen, anyone? :P

@ GSZX1337, probably just a lack of no exposure to overkill is why i never got into them. being a teen in the mid to late 80's you had headbangers ball and word of mouth and it was all about the big 4 in my circle of friends, and of course hair metal was huge.

i'll probably give gama bomb another try. most of my listening comes from my time in the gym and i just let em play, havok and evile just happened to get replayed because the songs caught my attention more.

what i've heard from warbringer i like, need to hear more.

where in tn are you from btw?
