Thunderforce Hi-Scores?

Post by Spyke »

Have I just missed them or are there no Hi-score threads for the Thunderforce series of games? Or is it because they're more story-driven games with definite endings?

Only reason is that no one has started one.

Not my favorite series, but I know there are def. some who'd enjoy playing along and improving.

If interested, get one started and i'll add it to the hyperlink list. Try to follow the layout as close as possible for easy navigation thread to thread.

Name

Rules (and accepted formats)
Top 5 or Top 10 score table

I'd suggest starting a table for all of them if it's something you can keep up with, if not, then just start w/one particular game in the series. You can see distinctions in the main list, meaning some games like Deathsmiles and Mars Matrix have a dedicated thread, whereas Strikers and Sonic Wings have all the games in the series.

You can turn this thread into a hi-score thread if desired by editing the OP and topic title.

I think no one has made one because there is no sort of scoring mechanic to the game. So, your score will mostly just directly reflect how far you have gotten.

Not that a game has to have a score mechanic to have a high score thread, since we do have Raiden and Gradius threads... but those games are really hard, so the competition is nice to push you further, whereas a lot of console shooters opt for a longer, but less difficult game. So, if we started a TFIII thread, we would likely see a lot of clears by the end of that week, and the scoring would just come down to checkpoint milking.

That said, if you do feel like a console shooter deserves a high score thread, feel free to make one! There are certain console-only shooters that I would definitely participate in.

Thanks. That sort of explains things. :)

Yeah that's what I meant by "story-driven" but I didn't express it properly. Checkpoint milking has an air of evil about it, so probably not to be encouraged, huh!

Ha, I don't know if I'd say its frowned upon, but I think that most people pass up on it, at least until they can safely clear the game. If you milk a good checkpoint for all its worth, than you are left on your last life to tackle the rest of the game.

I personally only try to score in games where I find scoring fun, and more often than not, checkpoint milking makes the game less fun for me. If I have played a game to the extend of only needing one life to get through it, but enjoy it so much that I just want to keep playing, then I might start looking to ways to further increase my score.

But hey, if you start a TF thread, and you and another member both have clears, but you want to hit that #1, there is definitely nothing wrong with milking a few checkpoints to do so.
