That wasn't a bug. The disc had the full game and others on it so you can call to buy and put in an unlock code. That was a hack to get all of the games for free.
I remember this disc fondly. May have it somewhere. Quake was great
I have two, both state Episode 1 Shareware. You are right Hobie, one I think is an earlier version that has a sticker stating CompUSA's Quake Unlock Center. Even though it has a Shareware Sticker, the full game is buried in the disc. Both discs have a bifold cover, 24 page manual and additional CD music tracks.

The best part of the Quake CD "PAK" is the manual states what I like about older games, the full CD archived installation; "You must install Quake before you play it. It will not run off the CD Rom." I guess in this instance Dial up was a blessing, to prevent having buy a 50mb download game.

Tales of legendia $17.99
DotHack Infection $4.49-1/2 off
The suffering ties that bind $8.09
Grim grimoire $3.59- 1/2 off
Suikoden IV $8.99
Full metal alchemist 2 curse of the crimson elixir $4.49-1/2 off

I tried to get some PSP games as well, but it looks like you can't mix and match for the deal. All of the games I got came with boxes, sadly the FMA game and grim grimoire had no manuals. I kinda did bug the worker to let me have a peek at their stuff behind the counter. Sometimes they have generic cases on the floor and boxed in the counter.

I am happy, I now have all three ps2 suikodens!
Great Finds! Gamestop at this point should just sell each game at half off or something, the pickings are getting slim. The multiple suikodens can be justified as one for the console, one backup and one to give to CRT? Hey, I gotta try. :D

J_Wil wrote:Not sure why I keep buying Gamecubes but I picked up a silver one with 2 controllers and all the hook-ups for $20. It works perfectly and the controller sticks are tight. Gamecubes are so ridiculously common in the thrift stores in my area. They usually run around $20 for the system alone so when I see one in great shape with controllers and hook-ups the hoarder in me can't resist. I joke with friends that I am going to build a coffee table out of them but I really could if I wanted to.

Also picked up two 1st party NES controllers and an RF adapter for $10.

I ventured into the more affluent area a few miles north and was floored to find a Sega Saturn w/controller & hook-ups for $35 and at another thrift store a Sega Nomad for $10.

The only thing that was new to me was an Atari plug & play for $3. The stick is wonky and unresponsive and the games seem buggy.

The only game I got was Resident Evil 5 for PS3 at a pawn shop for $12.

I also found some very cool old cassette drawers for $1 each (bought 3 and one double-decker). My loose Genesis carts fit perfectly.
Nice Finds! The Atari PlugnPlay worth fixing, it has a good mix of games including Yars Revenge. Good idea on the cassette drawers, I need to check how box units will work with NES carts.

Loved the story on the Gamecube Console collection, I was waiting for a punch line of finding one with a Component Cable, GB Player or Ethernet Adapter underneath. Still, a great price at only twenty bucks! In my stupidity I passed on a used Gamecube with a Wavebird and Receiver a couple years ago, simply because it did not have the second digital out port. If I had only known.

The controller was dirty as hell, but managed to clean up 95% of it after opening it up. The stick is a little loose, but works just fine. Any way to replace the stick? I noticed when I opened it up, that it's attached to a an internal box that probably has to have the whole bit replaced. Maybe not. What causes the stick to become loose anyway?
Great price! The stick just wears out from use. You can put a little lubrication inside the stem of the stick such as 3in1 or sewing machine oil to prevent further wear. The whole base can be swapped out inside and even upgraded to a Gamecube stick as well, just would cost more then what you invested.

NES Arkanoid Game and Vaus Paddle - $25.00 Swap Meet
Not a great price but I finally got one with the elusive NES Taito Vause paddle! Also came with the original game manual and Nintendo labeled game cart sleeve. Bought due to frustration of the one below not working, that is until I took it apart.

NES Arkanoid Vaus Controller - $5.00 Swap Meet
Found in a dog pile of five dollar game controllers, this was very sweet at first. Turned out to not work with Arkanoid in a multi game bootleg cart, but I did manage to repair it. Strange thing is the bootleg still would not work with the paddle, but the original Arkanoid mentioned above does.

I now have TWO working NES Vause Spinners!

I had one GC boxed that I bought new back in 2002. I have bought three (one in each color) in the last couple of months. One of them specifically because it came with the GB Player attached. I'm still looking out for a start-up disk though. That one was only $9, system only. I tend to pick up lots of odds and ends these days so I have an extra AV cable and power adapter for it. I have yet to run across a Wavebird though. It's amazing how expensive those are now.

^Excellent get. Obviously Snatcher alone is at a steal and the rest is gravy.

Nice snags on the Arkanoid controller and Snatcher.

FWIW, my Quake shareware disc came from Best Buy. It has Hexen and Heretic, as well as some other things you could unlock off it as well as I recall.

Thanks. I think the Quake disc also includes Wolfenstein and Doom as well. The main feature of the CD is the music tracks that run with any Quake fully installed, play the game with the original soundtrack. :D

Well had a decent find yesterday. A guy posted on craigslist he was selling a box of games & junk. He recently bought an old house and the previous owner had left this stuff in it. Hobie helped me dig through it all. Some I gave to him, some got trashed, and here is what is left.

Image

NES with controller, zapper, and NES power plug. It looks like at one point they busted the power button and replaced it with some rigged switch from radioshack.

Image

1st model PS1 with a 3rd party controller, cables, couple of games and a wild arms manual. I am skeptical of the ps1 actually working. It did have a beat up box it came with, but I let Hobie have it.

Image

GBC box with paperwork. Box was a little warped from being in a weird position, but is already coming back to shape and is in pretty good condition.

Image

Interesting stuff. I like the Saitek flight/joystick. It has a USB cable, so I am hoping I can try it out on my PC.
SMS light gun
Atari Joystick
Sealed Mad Catz oXbox mem card
SNES power plug
GBA connection cables x 2

Image

A box only for an N64 mem card
couple gen games
Zelda DS case only
Columns GG
Wizards & Warriors Fortress of Fear GB
Desperate Housewives PC Sealed (lol)
SNES system paperwork
Bootleg Anime VCD

Image

N64 box with sytrofoam and paperwork. In pretty good condition.

Image

Stack of Nintendo Powers

All in all, the lot cost me a whole $5. Nothing spectacular, but it was fun digging through the box, and definitely worth the time and money.

I will be posting most of this on my bst at some point. If anything interests you pm me.

Once a year, my wife and I take a long weekend in Asheville, North Carolina. For part of the trip, she attends the Grove Park Inn Arts & Crafts Conference while I go video game hunting. This year, I picked up:

Image

Battlezone (2600) - $2
Chopper Command (2600) - $2
Circus Atari (2600) - $2
Dodge 'Em (2600) - $2
Grand Prix (2600) - $2
River Raid (2600) - $5
Sneak 'n Peek (2600) - $2
Spider Fighter (2600) - $2
Starmaster (2600) - $2
Star Voyager (2600) - $2
Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (2600) - $2
Turmoil (2600) - $2
Vanguard (2600) - $2
Venture (2600) - $2
Video Olympics (2600) - $2
Warlords (2600) - $2
Marble Madness (GB) - $2
Megalit (GB) - $5
Revelations: The Demon Slayer (GB) - $5
Sonic the Hedgehog (GBA) - $5
Tron 2.0 (GBA) - $3
Bill Walsh College Football '95 (GEN; CIB) - $0.50
KaGeKi: Fists of Steel (GEN; CIB) - $3
NHL '94 (GEN; CIB) - $0.50
Super Thunder Blade (GEN; CART & CASE) - $3.50
Twin Cobra (GEN; CART & CASE) - $2
Cruis'n World (N64) - $5
San Francisco Rush (N64) - $2
Donkey Konga (NGC; CIB) - $3
Colony Wars III: Red Sun (PS1; CIB) - $5
Frank Thomas Big Hurt Baseball (PS1; LONGBOX; CIB) - $3
Midway Presents Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection 2 (PS1; CIB) - $5
Syphon Filter 2 (PS1; CIB) - $3
Crazy Taxi (PS2; CIB) - $3
Fugitive Hunter (PS2; CIB) - $2
Genji: Dawn of the Samurai (PS2; CIB) - $3
Stretch Panic (PS2; CIB) - $5
Dungeon Master (SNES) - $5
Super High Impact (SNES) - $0.50
Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law (WII; CIB) - $5

These games fill some gaps in my collection, and I am excited to have acquired them. I am also excited to have acquired a copy of Fugitive Hunter (PS2), arguably one of the worst games of its generation, for a good price. It will make an excellent addition to my "terrible games" collection. Also - to stay within some sort of budget - I had to turn down some pretty rare 2600 carts. If they are there when I return next year, I may have to pick them up, however.

In any event, there were no amazing finds this year, but I spent only $112 on 40 video games, which averages out to $2.80 per game.

Pretty good haul there.

Except for Ka Ge Ki. You overpaid for that.

In fact that negates a few of those good titles you got there with its suckiness.
