OUYA is now up for pre-order on Amazon

Post by J T »

Well, it looks like this thing is going to be a real thing after all.

I'm curious to see how it does in the new generation.

I like what I've heard about it so far, but I want to know more about it, though I haven't bothered to do any searching.

The controller looks alright, but I would want more controller options. If they're really about being FOR gamers, then they should have more controller options. That one doesn't look too bad, but I don't see it being my favorite.

^That summed up my thoughts.

I don't want one, but it will be interesting to see if it actually becomes a success in the long run.

It's probably just using Bluetooth for the controller, which might make using PS3 and Wii accessories fairly simple.

I thought they outright stated it is bluetooth.

I am still curious about this device. Now that I have a smartphone I am less interested, but I can think up a dozen non gaming ideas to use one for.

Ah, yeah, they did.

I guess the real question is whether their front end will allow for using the apps to sync up PS3/Wii controllers, can do so itself, or what. Given how open they've said it is, I suspect you'll be able to, but maybe someone out there with a dev unit has tried.

I probably will not get one, but this will be interesting to see how it pans out with the big three. Since all consoles are pushing towards downloads and game streaming, maybe with Android support it might succeed? Competition always a good thing.

I ordered mine before the cut-off for getting it by April. So I should have it soon. Working on one game that I hope to have out by or around launch. It's nice not having to worry about touch screens and be able to design a "real" game.

Strangely, the OUYA feels more new and exciting to me than the PS4, Wii-U, or XBox720. I think it's because they aren't just pushing a hardware upgrade like all the big boys are. OUYA is pushing a business philosophy upgrade for console owners. It's about being open. It's about freedom. It's about flexibility. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all sought more control over how you game and added more rules, restrictions, DRM, and walled gardens. OUYA feels like a breath of fresh air.

I might buy one. I like its indie DIY spirit. I just need to figure out how it's any different than a PC.

I was talking to my brother about this recently. I really like the concept and idea of openness, plus it looks cool and compact, but since I already own an HTPC for gaming not sure what else the OUYA brings, unless there are particularyly must-have exclusives. Still, will be keeping an eye on this one. Depending on developer support, for $99 it looks great!

Also, being able to utilise Wii/PS3 controllers via bluetooth would be nice.
