I bet you could transplant the PCB from the Retrolink controller into an actual Sega Saturn controller. FWIW, my PlaySega USB PCB fit in a Sega controller just fine.

i have two of these and they also work on PS3.

That's the one I had got that for signing up to play sega. Then I bought another one from Amazon. Doesn't say play sega on it but it's the same controller. They feel exactly the same and they both had the down button break.

It's a shame the D-Pad has common issues because the controller feels like a classic controller.

That's not fair -- the Hori pad is very different than the stock pad. The stock pad is a turd if you need the d-pad for emulating those classic games. If you have something like the Hori EX2 pad, and never had the stock wired controller, you wouldn't know how shite one is in comparison to the other.

As far as my own preferences go, if I could only have one USB controller it would be the PS2 pad simply for the amount of button options and comfort. Otherwise, I simply use whichever controller suits the style of game I'm playing, since I have USB adapters for them all.

I like the stock 360 D-Pad. It has never failed me, even in some fairly hectic gaming moments (Like the Larsa fight in Mushi Futari, or the final satges of Super Meat Boy)

Its no Saturn Model 2, but I think it gets more hate than it deserves. Out of all the stock controllers of the past 2 generations, I think the 360 is the best.

IMO, the 360 d-pad depends on genre. The stuff it really fails at, like fighters, don't really favor any stock pads except the Saturn's, and you'd be better off getting a stick anyway.

For basic emulation and the like, a 360 controller works pretty well, as the limitations of the official driver are fairly irrelevant for most older systems.

My #1 choice is a real SNES controller with a SuperSmartJoy adapter.

I will also occasionally use:
N64 controller with USB adapter
Logitech controller
Third-party Sega Saturn USB controller

I found one for uber cheap at gamestop, really glad I picked it up.

I ended up getting two fightpads for the PC i have hooked up to my TV. Definitely a great controller and I recommend it to anyone wanting a good controller for playing most retro games.

I use this. It works on PS3 and PC.



The floaty D-Pad is actually pretty nice, and it has excellent analog sticks. The buttons are fine, it's solidly built, and it feels nice in my hands. It's also heavy. The only drawback is its lack of rumble.
