Are you serious? The guy just got a huge push and was probably in line to win a title at Wrestlemania and then he goes out and gets a DUI and has pot on him at the same time? Probably the biggest oppurtunity of his life. After all the bad public relations the WWE has had in the past with substance abuse there is no way they will tolerate something like this. I have no idea why athletes(or pro wrestlers) can't hire a driver or call a cab. Talk about throwing your career in the toliet. Most pro athletes can't be replaced so they don't get cut over this stupididity, but this guy wasn't that great to begin with.BurningDoom wrote:So what, it's a little weed. Re: The Wrestling Thread
DUI was probably part of the weed and had nothing to do with alcohol. DUI counts for ANY substance.
But yeah, that is a good point. If he's in this spot, then he probably shouldn't have risked it and just got a driver.
I just don't see why weed is treated the same as other drugs in the WWE. Hell, I don't see why it's treated the same in a lot of society. I mean alcohol is far worse for you and more impairing, yet it's not only okay, but it's socially acceptable to the point that you're strange if you don't drink.
I for one am not gonna villainize a guy for going out and having a good time. But jeopardizing his career is admittedly stupid.

Driving under the influence of a banned substance is stupid, not "having a good time".BurningDoom wrote: I for one am not gonna villainize a guy for going out and having a good time. But jeopardizing his career is admittedly stupid.
"It's not like it was heroine". That's not the point by a long shot. If it's against the law, don't do it, especially while behind the wheel where you can take the lives of innocent people.

I call BS on this. It's not alcohol. It doesn't have the same effects as alcohol. And it doesn't impair you like alcohol. And it's not illegal, where I live. But like I said, he should have at least found a driver like was pointed out. It's the getting caught with weed part that I was referring to.Luke wrote:Driving under the influence of a banned substance is stupid, not "having a good time".BurningDoom wrote: I for one am not gonna villainize a guy for going out and having a good time. I think it's completely retarded that weed is treated the same as heroin or cocaine when it's clearly not. And I think it's completely retarded that drinking is okay, but weed isn't and alcohol is far, far worse and more impairing that weed. Just because it's more popular, it's okay, but weed isn't. Stupid.
You get drunk and you do stuff you regret, people get angry, people get unwanted pregnancies, people become alcoholics, livers are destroyed, families are destroyed, etc. You get high and the worse that happens is that you get lazy, hungry, and over-giggly.
But now I'm just ranting over my personal opinion and I'm getting far away from the Swagger things, sorry.

You miss the point again. "It's not heroine", "It's not Crack", "It's not LSD", "it's not 'insert illegal substance here'".
IT DOESN'T MATTER. You should not drive under the influence of drugs. No drug is "worse", the fact is any drug can seriously screw up your decisions.

You cut out the rest of that. I agreed that he should have had the driver. I said I was referring to the weed possession that was mentioned.Luke wrote:BurningDoom wrote: I call BS on this. It's not alcohol.

Dumbass
Seriously, have we learned nothing from RVD losing TWO MAJOR titles because of the exact same thing? Have we learned nothing from Sabu losing his push too? Have we learned nothing from how Orton got punished? RVD went from this:

to this:

This was the best moment in his entire wrestling career:
and the cherry on top:
WWE probably would have built their version of the ECW brand around him too. He would have been its John Cena

Re: The Wrestling Thread
RVD's case was hardly surprising though. Besides the 4:20 gimmick, he was a high flyer and a hardcore wrestler (=painkiller addiction). WWE isn't as demanding as it used to be, but I'm sure many people still have to use illegal painkillers so it's hardly surprising that some wrestlers get caught of possessing cannabis. Doesn't mean it's ok to put other people in danger on the road, but the fact is that pro wrestling, even during the PG&no steroids era, is the most physically and mentally demanding "sport" there is due to all the traveling, frequency of matches and bumps. MMA fighters and boxers have like 3-9 matches a year while top level pro wrestlers might have to wrestle 200+ days a year.

Yeah, I do feel for those guys, but it's the career they've chosen. I was just really pissed when RVD messed things up because I was really high on him at the time and was really enjoying his run with the two heavyweight titles. It was pretty epic. That's a rare thing, reminds me of Jericho's Undisputed Champion run.Menegrothx wrote:RVD's case was hardly surprising though. On another note, I watched a little bit of TNA last night after missing the last few weeks of the show. Wow! Leaving the Impact zone and going on tour drastically changes the look and feel of the show. Everything just looked bigger and more exciting and the crowd was really good. If I was a mark and you told me this was a company that could compete with the WWE, I'd believe it. The live setting and different arena makes them look like a REAL wrestling company

Re: The Wrestling Thread
^ TNA does signicantly better ratings in the UK over WWE also. They broadcast impact on the free sports channel. They are arguably more popular there which is impressive. I'm excited for them to get out on the road too.
