I don't think "rebuy everything" is accurate, as the problem is that the PS4 hardware can't really emulate/run PS3 games since it is a different architecture. You couldn't rebuy the games because they wouldn't work on the system.

A follow up to this news I read clarified that future "streaming" services may allow access to much of the current PS3/PSN library, but whether or not you'd have to rebuy those compatible games that A) can be streamed and B) are currently tied to your account is yet unknown.

The source article reads a lot more like that direct-download PS3 games won't work due to not being able to be emulated. My guess is stuff like PS1 classics won't be a problem.

Thankfully, I have almost nothing to re-buy because of my stance on digital content (mainly the consoles).

You all seem to have forgotton that licensing issues keep many games off the PSN, Id much rather have physical backwards compatability. Still waiting for Suikoden II on the PSN >.>

Given how Sony has been trying to really win over customers with stuff like PSPlus and the cross buying Vita games thing, I'm willing to wager that stuff you've already bought on PSN will be accessible to you freely once they're up on the PS4 cloud thing.

The Jaguar is back!

...

It's powering the PS4!

...

Ok, it's just the codename of the CPU in the PS4. :p

The hardware in the PS4 should have zero problems emulating the PS1 if they need/want it to.

May also be a very different legal question about whether they can utilize stored images of every PS1 title to allow streaming the game to those who have authenticated ownership via a copy of the disc in a drive versus selling new licenses to use it.

I doubt it's something they would have overlooked in any case.

The Cell is indeed hard to emulate as the architectures are vastly different.. However by now the Emotion Engine of the PS2 should be feasible for B/C even if it's not cycle-for-cycle.

Here's what EG thinks about the PS4 so far

I hate to mention Microsoft here but I imagine a reversal of roles this time around. What possibly could they offer in their next Xbox? Who cares about mandatory Kinect and intrusive advertising? Bleh.

Thanks for sharing that. I too feel like this is the first system reveal for Sony without some hardware included in it that would make we want the machine regardless of what the game library turned out to be. The PS2 was my first DVD player, the PS3 is still my go to Blu-Ray player and Netflix machine, and the PS4...uses the internet in more ways? It isn't enough to dampen my enthusiasm for the system, but it does seem like a lack of hardware innovation compared to their previous launches.
