Side note - I'll also add that I switched to disc-only on my DVD and Blu-ray collection about a year ago, also.
I still have all 500+ cases in the attic, but now everything is individually sleeved and takes a fraction of the room. I still have all my special editions/autographed copies/etc. on the shelf. This made cataloging a necessity, but that's been a blessing as well. With search filters and all the other info, it's a lot easier to find something to watch than my old alphabetic system. I'm a sucker for organization.
I would probably do something similar with my video games at some point:

I would love to find something that would also let me associate a PDF of the manual for each entry...
What's your approach to disc-only games?

If I were going to ditch DVD/Blu Rays I'd just straight up rip everything to a few giant HDDs and set up an HTPC to watch them from.
Re: What's your approach to disc-only games?
Personally, the only disc-based games I always try and get complete are Saturn games because the cases are different from the standard cd/dvd cases and Gamecube games because of the smaller discs. For most everything else, disc only is fine because I know I can just grab a case and print off a cover if I care to.
I'm not a glitch, I just have pixlexia.

The last time I bought a disc only game was probably over 5 years ago when I ebayed a copy of Dragon Force for the Sega Saturn. Always regretted that purchase.
I have, however, obtained disc only games as a consequence of bulk/mystery box purchases. But that doesn’t count.

depends on the game. If it's cheap and looks interesting, and cheap enough to peak my interest, I might bu it.
If it's a game i have been searching for for ages and reaaaaaaally want it, i would buy it and get the rest cheaper.

Re: What's your approach to disc-only games?
I'm not even much of a collector but I still go for complete disc games. The main reasons are:
1. Loose discs tend to be in horrible shape and scratched to hell.
2. If for some reason I decide I don't like the game, I have a much better chance of actually being able to sell it to someone else if it's complete/in good shape.
3. I like the way the cases look on my shelf.
So yeah, if it weren't for those things I could totally make the switch to disc-only. As far as having the manual, that mostly falls under reason number 2 above. I own the manual for all but one of my disc games and have probably never even opened up more than half of them. They used to be fun to look at and read but they just don't make 'em like they used to...

Quite literally.

The last great manual I've seen last was Persona 4 Arena for the Xbox 360. Thick, glossy and in full color.
Anyway I tend to be a complete package person. I want the game and everything that came with it. I try to be reasonable though in that if I cant find the game in the condition that I want I'll buy a cart or disc only game. Age becomes a factor as well. I feel that games from the 7th gen should have everything included. Not enough time has past where I can make such exceptions in regards to time since release. It is easier to find a complete copy of Skyward Sword than it is to find The Wind Waker.
Disc/Cart only account for 1% of my DS, PSP, and Xbox 360 collection. I just couldn't find it complete for the life of me and I really wanted it.

I did that for awhile, but it made travel interesting. So now I do a mix of HTPC and Blurays. Atleast until new 2tb drives drop down to the $75-$100.AppleQueso wrote:If I were going to ditch DVD/Blu Rays I'd just straight up rip everything to a few giant HDDs and set up an HTPC to watch them from.

Yeah, that's the only thing stopping me from just doing it. Blu Ray rips would be murder on HDD space!fastbilly1 wrote:I did that for awhile, but it made travel interesting. I might do the HTPC thing just for my tv/anime collections though. Less disc swapping I'd have to do.
