Always Sunny in Philadelphia: Honestly, we both really really disliked it. Mainly the acting, all 4 main characters (DeVito wasn't in the first season, which is the only full season we watched). It was like they had one decent joke...and they'd make an episode out of it, like finding a way to get underage kids in a bar, or protesting at some women's function. The sort of thing that would have been one 30 second joke on Seinfeld they milked for 23 minutes each week. Felt very lazy and just not great, and again, all 4 lead characters were just annoying to us.
Ok...

I know exactly how you feel about these characters. When me and my wife started watching the show I could not get into it I didn't like the characters at all. Once I got past the first season the show got a lot better. They started getting what was coming to them. I think the episode that really changed my mind on the show was Dennis runs for comptroller. These horrible people finally got their just desserts. That is something I really enjoyed. You should probably give it another chance. It gets Brilliantly funny in the second season, when Danny DeVito joins the cast.

Also, breaking bad is brilliant. You should really try that one once more!
It sounds to me like you probably wouldn't like the rest of Always Sunny in Philadelphia. You could give a few episodes of the second season a try and if it doesn't seem better to you I wouldn't waste your time with it.

I really like the first season, to me Charlie seemed more relatable compared to his more insane persona in the latter seasons.

As for breaking bad, to me the actor's do a very good job portraying how things are. This comes from knowing people who did that sort of thing.

I would add my name to the list, and recommend Freaks and Geeks, while it wasn't my favorite show, I found it enjoyable, and could easily relate to some of the characters. It had a very short run so it won't be too much of a time commitment starting it. It's kind of funny seeing how young all the actors in it were, compared to today.

I'm getting from your earlier post that you enjoyed Seinfeld, if you did I would recommend Curb Your Enthusiasm. While it isn't on Netflix, it is one of the funniest shows I've seen. But be warned, it is very raunchy.

More awesome stuff - thanks all and keep posts coming, obviously this is something that a lot of us could reference i'd think.

Grimm - yeah, we've been def. planning on this one, hoping it comes to netfllix, if not, one we would buy.

BSG Blood and Chrome - my bad, I thought this was just a movie follow-up, didn't realize it was a full fledged series.

Damages - I heard really solid things about this but have held off since I really don't enjoy Glenn Close, but we'll give it a shot.

Spaced - will give that a shot too, for sure. Simon Pegg is all sorts of win in my book.

Spaced is the reason why we have Shawn of the Dead.

I don't know. I watched most of Grimm's first season and wanted to love it but it just seemed to keep going nowhere. Most of the main characters were kind of bland with the exception of a very entertaining werewolf character and the show seemed too reluctant to get out of its cop show-like, procedural, monster of the weak formula. It was like watching something like CSI or NCIS, but with monsters in it. I plan on giving it another chance to see how it's second season has fared, but if you didn't like Once Upon a Time - a show I found much more interesting than Grimm, I can't imagine you liking Grimm at all.

Again, I think anyone looking for a Buffy fix should try Supernatual, but it might not pass your three episode trial period. Some shows take longer than that to get off the ground, but I do think its first three episodes are waaaaay better than Grimm's.

Once cool thing about Supernatural is that its early seasons focused a lot on real life urban myths and ghost stories. I always thought that was very, very cool. You could research a lot of the stuff they presented on that show. One episode had them dealing with the ghost of a real life serial killer. Some of their shows took inspiration from horror movies too. It's a very different approach from Buffy and Angel, which tended to just make up monsters and horrors with no basis in reality. The show would go on to do some very clever stuff over time, including some very, very meta stuff that allowed them to completely make fun of their fanbase, but in a fun sort of way that didn't really offend.

Oh, and if you like classic rock. The show has a distinct sountrack that uses a lot of that. It gives the show a very rock n roll feel. Although, I think the Netflix episodes use a few different songs in season 1 due to licensing issues. Still, lots of references to classic rock stars and bands on the show. Many of their "previously on" segments are set to classic rock tunes like "Carry on My Wayward Son" by Kansas. Also, the show will make you love the 67 Chevy Impala

The funny thing about Supernatural, it's a very testosterone infused show with the muscle cars, classic rock, and horror elements(some of which are genuinely scary by the way). Yet, it has a large female fanbase because of its two attractive male leads.

Yeah you should watch season two, it is dramatically better.

I like OUaT, but I really dislike the actress that plays Emma for some reason. There are also many characters I just don't want to have them focus on at all (the Giant, Cora, Henry). I think Charming is a moron. IMO, the highlight of OUaT is Robert Carlyle and the evil lady, whatever her name is. They have a good dynamic.

I think you mean Regina. I think most would agree that Regina and Rumpelstiltskin are the stars of that show(I think Regina is gorgeous, my type of woman). A lot of stuff revolves around them. I'm not a huge fan of the actress who plays Emma either, but I think a lot of that is simply how she chooses to play the character. I saw an episode or two of How I Met Your Mother with her on it and liked her much better. She seems less....shall we say, "butch" on that show

Emma seems way too masculine. It's just a personal turn off I guess. The character is very stubborn and dumb at times too, so there's also that.

Not that we didn't like OUaT, rather we weren't hooked - we can usually get 3-4 episodes of a show done in 2 nights. We want to be hooked by the 3rd night, we want to be "excited" to get the kids down and crawl in bed for our show. We will def. get back to it at some point.

I don't mind a show having a formula, but for sure, if there is a seasonal underlying theme, the show is much better. We really enjoy Bones and enjoyed Monk, but both shows were even better when they were putting time into a major seasonal arc, beyond relationships, ie, finding Trudy's killer or the Gravedigger Killer, it seems that both shows got away from those bigger arcs and stuck with "killer of the week" too often, which was good, but could have been great.

We did start Supernatural, it was right after we finished Smallville though and it's always tough to get into a show after watching 100+ episodes of a different show. We both didn't care for Jensen Ackles, he has that "good looking, over-actor" thing going. This might be fixed going forward - we like the 3 episodes we saw, but found ourselves cringing a bit at his scenes. We get this a lot though. We fought off watching Buffy for 3 years after the series had completely ended, largely because we found SMG so damned annoying as an actress in "I know what you did last summer", we just couldn't fathom enjoying a show with her in it. Lo and behold, we dove in and hated her...3 episodes later...we were hooked and by series end, while he didn't care for her as an actress in other things, the truth was she played that character very well and loved her as Buffy...and nothing else.

That is one thing to say about OUaT it has been "overarching plot" since the beginning, whereas Grimm's first season was definitely monster-of-the-week. I think Grimm was a little scared to do something that people couldn't jump straight into the first season, but in season 2 they've got a great arc going and I can't wait to see what's happening episode to episode.

Back to the OP (forgive me if you listed these as "watched"), but I noticed these when browsing Netflix:
How I Met Your Mother - Sitcom - Consistently funny show, I love watching this show.
The IT Crowd - Sitcom - This might be funnier to me, as I work in the IT industry, but I *think* it would still be funny to those who aren't. I love British humor though.

As others have said, definitely watch Spaced, I almost forgot about that show. Its really weird and oddly funny. I wish there were more seasons of that, but I don't know how well it would work if they go back to it now. It's a British show so it has that charm to it, but its not overly British to the point where you don't know what's going on.

Edit:

Also I see you mentioned Monk, maybe give Psych a try, I haven't seen a lot of episodes, but found what I watched enjoyable, and I'm 90% sure it's on Netflix.
