OPL Doesn't See Games from Internal HDD

Post by Jamisonia »

So I have Free McBoot and Open Playstation 2 Loader installed. I downloaded WinHIIP 1.7.6. I have a 320GB Maxtor IDE HDD that was listed as compatible. I formatted the drive using WinHIIP to the Playstation format. I then placed two ISOs on the drive. One I downloaded from the internet, and one that WinHIIP ripped straight from the disc. OPL does not recognize either game. I have hard drive turned on in OPL. It just shows a HDD Games screen with nothing listed.

I followed this tutortial: http://sksapps.com/winhiip_tutorial.html

So a couple things I'm not sure about. What are the mode settings for? When I format the drive for OPL should I use HDLoader 28 bit, HDLoader 48 bit, or Toxic OS? (I used 28 bit already) Lastly, I didn't do anything with PPF Patches. I don't know what that is.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Update:
My problem was a bad connection between adapter and PS2.
The HDD was spinning up but no applications on the PS2 was able to read from it.

Got the same or related problem.
I've got a 1TB internal SATA HDD connected with SATA network adaper (actually lacking the network capability - (see http://dx.com/p/2-5-3-5-sata-hdd-networ ... 0000-54329 ) prepeared with WinHIIP v 1.7.6 and set 48bit HDLoader on in options. At first boots with OPL the HDD Games listet all games currently on the drive but now when I try to list the games on the interal HDD I just get a marker in the lower right corner of the screen and then nothing.
I've tried to connect the disk back to WinHIIP on my pc and run the Scan/repair PS2 drive under Utilities (and saved after doing so) and everythin looks fine in WinHIIP (it lists all games), but OPL still doesnt list any games.
Also tried accesing the HDD trough LaunchELF but it doesnt list anything on the HDD either (I dont know if it supports the filesystem on the HDD).
Im using the free mcboot noobie package.

hi Jamisonia , from memory if your Hard Drive is over 120GB you need to Format to 48 bit.

Also if you use Format to 48 bit you need HDLoader 48 bit , to get a HDLoader 48 bit either someone can give it to you or you can build your own with HDL GUI and a raw original HD Loader uncompressed unmodified.

I may be able to help you if you cant acquire everything needed i can upload my HDLoaders ive made for my own use.

What s8n said is correct. See this thread for the explanation why.
WinHIIP aims for compatibility with several mutually incompatible disk formats.

"28-bit HDLoader" is the format used by original HDLoader using 28-bit LBA for max 128GB
"48-bit HDLoader" is the format used by patched HDL using 48-bit LBA for large drives
"Toxic OS" is the format used by Toxic OS in the latest DMS modchips, and it also uses a variation of 48-bit LBA but a deviant partitioning scheme specifically to hide all data past 128GB so that the Sony HDD utilities can be used without nervous breakdown.

The last of these three formats only matters if you have a DMS chip, with Toxic OS installed, and have Sony HDD utilities (impossible on many systems, including all PAL).

The default choice is the "28-bit HDLoader" format, simply because it is oldest. To use another format you need to click a button and select the format you want. The relevant button for this was entitled "Program Options" in v1.7.2, simply "Options" in v1.7.3, and may be renamed yet again, but at least you now know what to look for...
