Honestly, I believe that arguing over the whole "one time use code" or whatever this thread is suggesting might happen with the new consoles is unrealistic - this idea will alienate more consumers than endear them. The future, though not necessarily next gen, will be DLC. It makes too much sense for it not to be. Not only does this solve the whole "used games ruining the market for developers" complaint, but it would surely increase profit margins due to lack of requiring producing physical copies. Sure, it might take ten years, but this is the way gaming will eventually end up...

Maybe this forces GameStop to start taking retro games to stay afloat. I wouldn't mind that. But then again probably not.

While whether this happens on the Xbox or not is still up in the air, Sony recently confirmed that the Ps4 will NOT block used games.

Good, if they want a piece of the used game market they should compete with it by offering cheaper prices for games that have been out for a while. I have no reason to go to Gamestop to buy "infamous" and pay $20 for a used game if Sony sells it on PSN for $10. Beat the used market out. It'll save Sony money from printing the game and the case, and they'll rack in the revenue.

Seems Microsoft has lost the plot.
So it sounds like they're implementing Windows 8's AOAC (which is not the same as Steam's DRM) and PC-style game installs. The linked article is missing a crucial detail about the general copy protection scheme; will the games require a disc in the tray, will it require online activation, or will it utilize that technology that was being mentioned when the PS3 was coming out that would let the console write to a portion of the disc to bind it to that console?

Installing all games to the console is a GOOD thing, IMO. Now hopefully those games are not locked to only that console, but it sounds like they will likely be. I always install my 360 and PS3 games when possible. And I wish it were possible on the Wii U because there are some crummy load times there.

I'm going to assume that, at the very least, the discs/installs will have unique IDs and the installs will be tied to your account. Since installs are mandatory and I don't see them allowing two installs of the same game on two different accounts, reselling would only be possible if you uninstalled the game from your own machine before handing over the disc.

Honestly with that, they could still allow used sales, but it would turn a lot of people off since there's no way that say, Gamestop, could enforce requiring that you've already uninstalled the game from your own machine.

They could just have an Xbox on-site at the Gamestop that they try and install the game to and if it doesn't work, they don't buy the game from that user. Once they've completed the sale, they just uninstall it from the game store Xbox.

Sounds like a hassle they might not be willing to go through. Imagine how much it'd slow down lines on busy days?
