The thing is is that the enemies scale with your characters, so I've heard of plenty of people who get through it pretty easily by not grinding at all and whatnot. If you're okay with that you could pull that off. But I always get OCD with the drawing and like to max out the cards when new ones pop up and in the process end up leveling up a lot. Doing this definitely makes it harder at times, since enemies will level with you and end up having access to stronger magic and stuff.
I enjoyed the game when I first played it like 10 years ago and have attempted two replays since then... but yeah I just can't do it anymore, the gameplay just gets way too tiresome to me after awhile, namely the drawing and Junctions. The annoying thing about the Junctions is that since the story switches your characters around, you often lose your setups entirely and have to do that all over again, got pretty annoying.
Story/vibe wise the game is fine, but yeah, super boring gameplay.

Re: Final Fantasy 8 - I hated it when it came out
Am I the only one who just picked the memory option for the pointer, chose which spells my characters should draw, put the game on the fast setting (not talking about a hack here, the in game option) and just put a weight on the X button, and went around doing stuff at home?
Drawing never seemed like such a huge hustle to me.

*checks*
Hmm, looks like there's 50 spells in the game, then 7 characters. So 50 x 100 x 7 = 35,000 times I'd need to draw plus some since you're typically using some magic in battle too.
A bit of a hustle I'd say.

You guys know you aren't REQUIRED to draw 100 times per spell, right?
I mean, I'm really not a fan of the game, but... just sayin...

Like I said I get way too OCD about it. Just can't help it, lol.

Even so, when you draw, most times you get 9 spells.Xeogred wrote:Like I said I get way too OCD about it. Just can't help it, lol.
Sure, it depends on your magic stat, but you don't really get 1 spell per draw.

Plus you only have to draw 100 of each spells for 3 characters and then junction exchange between them. still a hustle, but as I said I just keep X pressed down and go around goofing off. Sometimes even play another game. I know it's sad, but I don't think it's as sad as when I do it while playing counter strike (lived for 10 seconds, and then waited for the round to be over)

Doesn't really sound like you guys are enjoying the FF8 experience at all - why play a game at all if you're not enjoying it? No one is putting a gun to your head and telling you to keep playing, after all. I've played through the game several times and I think people get WAY too dramatic about the junctioning system in the game - it's extremely simple after only a few hours and the game does a good job of easing you into it. You also don't need to waste your time trying to draw 100 of every spell (which is idiotic anyway, in my opinion) when you can simply use the "refine magic" abilities that all GFs have from stones/items you find in the game.

I don't get whythe junction system is getting more hate than the materia system. They work under the same principles, only instead of collecting stones that improve your stats via your equipment, you collect magic that improves your stats via your GF.
