Re: no love for the sega genesis
It is true that the Genesis gets no love as a collector's item, but that shouldn't be a bad thing. That gives you all the more reason to take advantage and be able to play those games for incredibly cheap. You have such a huge variety of grade A titles that you just can't get anywhere else like the Phantasy Star & Shining Force series, Landstalker, Eternal Champions (Sega CD version is better, but still!), Rocket Knight Adventures etc. All which you can get pretty cheap and REALLY enjoy.

Oh man, I was hoping this wouldn't be so. I was beginning to wonder if it might actually make better business sense to some stores to sell carts only of Genesis games, but then I thought, "But who would actually throw out the other bits?" Well, egad. Now I have my answer.o.pwuaioc wrote: I know of several stores - including one store chain - that throws out all Genesis cases and manuals.
Do you ask them to collect all their Genesis undesirables in a box that you then take off their hands every other week or so? That's what I'd do.
Re: no love for the sega genesis
I try. There hasn't been a large influx of Genesis games, so I only get what I can. It's also a pain to go to the other stores, so I only go to the one near me.Key-Glyph wrote:Oh man, I was hoping this wouldn't be so. SHHHHHHHH!
Geez! Be quiet or they will hear you! I like being able to pick up great games for the Genesis for peanuts while even the crappy SNES games cost more than dinner for 2 at a chain restaurant.
Don't ruin it!

You need to import. And besides, a lot of Japanese games just look better than the US versions. Take Valis for example.

Well, I'm certainly not going to complain that games can be had for cheap on my favorite system growing up in comparison to the SNES. I've also never understood the dislike I see from some people regarding the games' plastic case. I love those compared to the cardboard boxes that SNES games came with. The Genesis and TG-16 did it right with nice solid cases imo. =)

There are people out there that actually complain of the Genesis/Mega Drive clamshell cases? What's not to like? They're solid, sturdy and the way games should be packaged, imo.MrNash wrote:I've also never understood the dislike I see from some people regarding the games' plastic case. Re: no love for the sega genesis
I just bought another cool Genesis game on the cheap:

I loved this in the arcade (when I was nine years old). I guess that some of the shock value has diminished twenty years later. Stop-motion gorilla urinating on an evil tyrannosaurus strikes me as a little juvenile now.
Still, it's a cool trip down memory lane. This is a little time capsule of a period in the '90s when arcade games drew in customers buy stirring up controversy. Call it "Motal Kombat syndrome".
Primal Rage is also cool if you're a fan of Ray Harryhausen movies. If you like Jason and the Argonauts, Clash of the Titans or Mighty Joe Young check out Primal Rage.

Re: no love for the sega genesis
This sums it up for me! I'm glad I can find Genesis games for cheap. I have a lot already, but still have a little ways to go, yet. It's one the systems I can see myself actually ending up having a complete collection of everything on my wishlist on eventually, because of the low prices.AppleQueso wrote:Not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned. All it means is that Genesis games can still be had for cheap!
And yeah, there are faaaarrr more great games out there on the system than just Sonic, NHL, and the ones on the collections:
-Castlevania: Bloodlines
-Contra: Hard Corps
-Cool Spot
-The Death and Return of Superman
-Eternal Champions
-Gaiares
-Gargoyles
-Landstalker
-Lethal Enforcers 1 & 2
-Lightening Force (no, I didn't misspell that, they did)
-Maximum Carnage
-Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie
-MUSHA
-The Punisher
-Raiden Trad
-Road Rash 1-3
-Rocket Knight Adventures
-Separation Anxiety
-Spider-Man (1991)
-Splatterhouse 2 & 3
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Hesit
-Thunder Force 2 & 3
-Whip Rush
-X-Men 1 & 2
And so many more I didn't list that aren't on collections or NHL.
