...which - since the meteor was moving at approximately 33,000 MPH - would have given them a little over 1/10 of a second to react to it.

Plenty of time to put on sunglasses.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.
Reminds me of this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunguska_event
Although the meteoroid or comet appears to have burst in the air rather than hitting the surface, this event still is referred to as an impact. Estimates of the energy of the blast range from 5 to as high as 30 megatons of TNT (21–130 PJ),[7][8] with 10–15 megatons of TNT (42–63 PJ) the most likely[8]—roughly equal to the United States' Castle Bravo thermonuclear bomb tested on March 1, 1954; about 1,000 times more powerful than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan; and about two-fifths the power of the later Soviet Union's own Tsar Bomba, the largest nuclear weapon ever detonated

Russians don't give a f**k And if it's true that no debris has been recovered why is it asserted it's a meteorite? Where's the bloody evidence? Experts can talk out of their arses all the time. (still, it is 99.999% most likely a meteorite)
Holy crap, you made me look for Russian videos and my god, they make it look like Russia is a country of crazy people and fools! I mean, seriously look at this shit:
Funniest video I've seen lately
