SNES Kiosk and found Sega Kiosk at Dr office, need info!

Post by RetroVision »

I wasn't sure if this should be listed in the look what I found category...or in my collection photos, so I made a new post. Mostly because I am trying to find more info on the Sega kiosks...

First, I was finally was able to locate a desktop SNES kiosk. Got a pretty good deal on it as it came with 24 games that I sold to lower the investment. I also found a second Sega kiosk. This was a great deal as I got it for $100.00. For those who care...here is the story...

I was combing Craigslist in the "garage sales" section (as I do from time to time even though it is winter here)...I am always hoping to find an indoor estate sale or something similar. So I searched Sega...and a "Dr Office Closing" was the title of the listing. The listing at this point was 5 days old...I open it up and there is a photo of this kiosk below...among other office related stuff he was selling. I was blown away. Since it was not listed in the video game category, it went unnoticed for 5 days. I called up the Dr office and sure enough it was still there. I met up with the old doctor who was closing his doors and retiring (about an hour from my house at 7am). He said no one had asked about and he wasn't sure what it was worth, he wanted $200.00. But he said that it didn't work, the screen flickered and then goes out. So I offered him $100.00. He took it. After the sale was complete, he says "hey I also have all these games for it" and he pulls out a garbage bag of 22 boxed Sega games. Nothing rare, but they all were in great shape and many of them had never been put in the DS-16 switcher. I brought the kiosk home to test it and see what was wrong. I reseated the ribbon cable cartridge on the DS-16 switcher and the screen lit up...now it is running perfectly. So I now have 2 complete Genesis kiosks both with the rare DS-16 game switcher. I am curious what the value of these kiosk is, if anyone has an idea please let me know. I have followed auctions on ebay for just the DS-16 by itself and seen them go over $300.00. The other Sega kiosk I own is also shown below...

That Sega kiosk is really cool. I've never seen a cart system that could take more than two games at once.

Thanks guys. The monitor on the SNES kiosk is shot...but it still works well enough to play the games. I want to see if a TV repair center can do anything to help the faded picture.

I imagine it is a little toasty from being on all day every day when it was in service.

These are INCREDIBLE finds! Isn't it amazing when you find a real gem in the most unlikely place? A Doctor's office! HA! The story is nearly as good as the find!

I would love to own a kiosk one day, but I'm not really sure where to begin looking. I remember seeing them in nearly every video store back in the 90's. Makes me wonder if there are some just sitting in storage in town. I'm going to have to find one.

I've seen a few of those SNES kiosks floating around from time-to-time, but I've never seen a Sega kiosk like that one. Super jelly.
