Finally got around to adding AV jacks on my Saturn...

You fool! You didn't center the jacks! I actually thought the RCA jacks placement was funny. There's two UL symbols on that sticker, and the RCA jacks fit perfectly inside the circles. Could I have taken the extra minute to center the S-Video jack. Of course, but I really don't care since it's in the back of the console and I'll never see it. Plus, it's functional and that's all that really matters.

The jump to S-Video from composite isn't too noticeable on my Trinitron, but I was more eager to do this to get stereo audio. Up until now, I was using a composite cable converted from an RF adapter, which only has mono audio.

The pinout for the AV multi out found on GameSX has an error tho, and that's why I wanted to post this. The new version of the pinout has a note that says, "Someone once said: The L and R audio assignments have been swapped, as this info has been incorrect for n years… :(" L and R are indeed swapped. Pin 2 is audio left, and pin 3 is audio right.

How did I find this out? I made a little test CD that has one track with ONLY the left side and another track with ONLY the right side. Jamisonia told me that most, if not all, CD lens cleaner discs have audio tracks for testing left and right channels. My old lens cleaner disc from the 90's does not, but I guess most newer ones do.

It doesn't matter much, you'll probably NEVER notice if you have it backward. Most stereo imaging in games doesn't really matter what is left and right (just like music). There's the rare occasion in a game that something should come out of the left channel to match an action on the left side of the screen, and vise versa.

Couldn't you just take three seconds to swap the left and right RCA cables and have it correct anyway?

I'm sure he can, I think his point was to point out an inconsisency in the most commonly referenced resource for the saturns AV pinout.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.
Consoles: I have too much stuff
Arcade: No seriously, I have too much stuff. Someone grab a shovel and dig me out of my basement.

Yeah. The way that paragraph read to me just came across like it was downplaying having the channels swapped is all. Unless it was meant as a reason why not everyone may have noticed it before. All I mean is it's not like you've got to go in and resolder stuff to fix it.

Well, you don't have to resolder them. Yes, you could just simply swap the RCA wires going to your TV. But the problem is I used red and white RCA jacks. Red is suppose to be the right channel, and it matches up with the red jack on my TV (which is the TV's right channel). So if you're matching colors up, like you're supposed to be doing, then it'll be reversed if you wired it up according to that pinout. So I went in and resoldered mine.

Yes, what I meant was that most people probably never notice that they're reversed. I know I probably wouldn't have noticed for a very long time (mostly due to the fact that I don't use my Saturn very often) if I left them reversed. I only knew to check because they pointed out that it may be wrong.

It was the controller. I got myself a new one and there are no longer any issues.
