I actually liked Shadow too. I remember falling off the levels a LOT LESS than I did in Sonic Heroes. I got all the different endings, so clearly it managed to hold my interest pretty well! It's not one of the greats of the series, but IMO it was definitely a step up from Sonic Heroes and Sonic Adventure 2.

On the topic of more recent Sonic games being good, Sonic 4 was Sega's last chance. I was so let down by episode one that I haven't bothered with a Sonic game since. I don't care anymore, I want to play GREAT GAMES no "so-so at best games that have Sonic in them".

I did like Sonic Rush a lot. I never played Sonic Rush Adventure though, mostly due to the lack of Hideki Naganuma.

On topic: the cycle is dead for me. Because I have almost no interest in playing Sonic games anymore.
I guess the fact that Colors and Generations have gotten almost universal praise wouldn't sway you at all? Because it's not like people were calling 4 a great game or anything, lots of people hated it. Virtually everyone who's a fan of Sonic seemed to enjoy Colors and Generations, especially Generations.
What Apple said.

Please reconsider Nemoide. I absolutely adore Colors, and I do not hesitate to call Generations one of the best games of this generation. It is spectacular, and well worth all of the praise that has been heaped upon it.

Have to disagree when it comes to music. Even in bad games the soundtracks still flourished.
What a maneuver!

There have been a lot of terrible sonic games. I too, own pretty much all of them on 360, and most of them on GCN.

The problem I have had with them is not the game design, but the controls and camera angles were terrible. I really like the atmosphere of SA2, but when I recently played it on 360, it reminded me how broken the controls were.

Don't get me started on Sonic 2006, that is the absolute worst sonic game ever. Its probably one of the worst games ever. Its main problem was the hub world, the actual levels were not so bad, but going through all the tedious stuff to find them was pure torture.

The only part of the Sonic Cycle that's a myth is the first one for me. I have completely given up on getting an amazing sonic game after Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Advance 1. But I still bought Generations. Fun game. Perhaps somewhat good? But still can't hold a candle when compared to the classics, SAdventure2 or SAdvance1.

ClementJ642 on You tube did a 3 1/2 hour rant on Sonic 06 that is worth watching it's less painful than playing the game.

I see what your laying down but what I was really making a point of was how disappointing Sonic 4 was and how it could of been better. Like how they could put out an official Sonic game when a fan made game that came out roughly the same time could blow the doors off it graphics wise and still have that old skool back in the day Sonic look.

Generations was neat and did the old skool sonic some justice but they just need to axe the cut scenes next time. Very laughable. I miss the old days when it was just sonic, tails, ocassionaly knuckles, and no one EVER talked lol

He said "I'm outta here", in Sonic CD.

Just saying.
