Id rather have the Halos on GoG, but Steam will work.MrHealthy wrote:With Brutal Legend actually on steam now, and multiple other games from the leak being confirmed for steam, its looking very likely that Halo 1 - 3 will hit the service at some point.

I don't know about the likelihood of this. Microsoft seems like they want a stranglehold over everything they release, and while a GoG release would be the best possible result, but I can imagine MS keeping a digital release as DRM-heavy as possible.fastbilly1 wrote:Id rather have the Halos on GoG, but Steam will work.MrHealthy wrote:With Brutal Legend actually on steam now, and multiple other games from the leak being confirmed for steam, its looking very likely that Halo 1 - 3 will hit the service at some point.

There were rumors recently that Halo 3 would be coming to Steam, but MS shot that down along with all the other Halo games.lisalover1 wrote:I don't know about the likelihood of this. There are games like that from recent years, and coming down the pipe. Most just aren't from the same companies from the 80s and 90s - and the few published by them are probably farmed out to a small developer to create anyway.BurningDoom wrote: That's true. It would work on those. I just wish big name companies like Nintendo, Squaresoft, Capcom, Konami, and Sega would focus more on 2D games. New 2D JRPs, platformers, run-n-guns, beat-em ups, and shoot-em ups with the quality and polish of such companies would be amazing to see happening on a regular basis again.
Personally, I think those companies are exactly the ones we don't want to see those kinds of projects from. In part, their past efforts stand out because they were the ones pushing the limits of development and hardware available decades ago. Those successes kept them in business, and in the position to continue pushing the boundaries of each generation of hardware. To me, that's what they should do. They have the money and staff to do it.
Meanwhile there's plenty of room for new talent to step up, for which a retro style 2D game might be ambitious.
SE and Namco Bandai are named as having titles in the works. Probably just ports of existing Android products, but still...It's not even out yet. And are those companies working on Ouya? Or focusing on retro-styled games?

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Also, why would MS release Halo on Steam if they are trying their hardest to promote Games For Windows Live?

MS has been letting Games for Windows Live wilt away. They haven't updated it in ages.lisalover1 wrote:Also, why would MS release Halo on Steam if they are trying their hardest to promote Games For Windows Live?
Older. Not wiser.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Is Games for Windows Live a digital download service? I thought it was like backend acheivement tracking and whatnot. Isn't Dark Souls a GfWL product and Steamworks?lisalover1 wrote:Also, why would MS release Halo on Steam if they are trying their hardest to promote Games For Windows Live?

Yes. GFWL is basically just Windows based integration of Xbox Live with a half assed arcade store that never works just like the rest of the implementation.Stark wrote:Is Games for Windows Live a digital download service? And speaking of Halo, Halo 2 for PC was supposed to be GFWL's juggernaut. Coincidentally, Halo 2 PC was as shoddily ported as GFWL was implemented.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Yes. I wish MS would just kill it off already. I hate having to log on to it for the few PC games that require it.

Square-Enix.com... or is it Capcom.com? (Square-Enix.co redirects to Capcom -- apparently they bought it when the domain went up for sale in March by a squatter.)
