Nintendo World Championships on Pawn Stars
Sorry if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find anything. Anyone else a bit annoyed that these carts were shown on Pawn Stars. I guess it could be looked at 2 ways...it may increase the dollars or interest for retro games because people will come out of the wood work and think they should start collecting. I just see it as now everyone who knows nothing about games will start charging an arm and a leg for retro games thinking they are all "rare." I guess it was Pat the Video Game Punk who brought them on the show, but I haven't seen it yet...so I don't even know if they bought them or not. Maybe I am just jealous and hoped I would find one in the wild someday
now all chances are lost if everyone is looking!

Re: Nintendo World Championships on Pawn Stars
I just watched that episode of Pawn Stars last night. It was a grey and a gold cart. It was kinda cool because the owner of the carts had a sales receipt from the person he bought the gold cart from. Turns out the previous owner of the gold cart was the original owner, whose name on the receipt matched the name published in Nintendo Power. Or whatever, since that show is so staged anyway.
Spoiler, if you care:
One thing about Pawn Stars that made me grin though... There was a recent episode where Chum Lee calls in sick so he can stay home and play a new video game. Earlier in the episode, he asks Corey if he's interested in the new FIFA game that's about to come out. Corey replies with, "Man, I still play my SNES." Touché, Corey.
Maybe some one saw this episode and then immediately went and dug out their copy from the closet/basement/attic/garage.

Well, if they do because they saw this episode, then they're stupid. They said a bunch of times how rare the Championship carts are, and how they're the holy grail of gaming.RetroVision wrote:I just see it as now everyone who knows nothing about games will start charging an arm and a leg for retro games thinking they are all "rare."

the one chick working there, olivia, is supposed to not be able to be on the show anymore from an old suicide girls layout surfacing. i googled, not to bad. i guess the charges of that toy expert beating his wife didn't bother the history channel as much.

LOL, what? I never heard of any of that. Still not as funny as when I heard why Ben Bailey wasn't on Cash Cab anymore (he ran over some one while filming the show). Turns out that wasn't true though. A cash cab DID run over and kill some one, unfortunately, but Ben Baily wasn't driving the cab. It wasn't even the NY cash cab, it was in Canada. And the Canadian host wasn't driving it at the time either.

Yes, and they paid waaay more than I would have.flojocabron wrote:Didn't they have an Atari 2600 once on the show?
Pawn Stars always makes me LOL. Every pawn shop I've been to has the following items: guns, car stereo systems, guns, used tv's/related electronics, guns, did I mention car speakers?, and jewelry.
I've never been to a pawn shop that has antique children's toys and fine art.

Yep that was Pat - who is a member here and also a staple over at RetrowareTV
I thought his offer was pretty fair. He's right that they could ask whatever they wanted for the Gold cart and probably get it. If he does really want to sell them, I'm sure potential buyers saw the show and will seek him out.

what atari game was on the show?
i figured it was just some guy off the street they gave the games to to act out the scene. dude looked pretty young to afford the coin it took to get those carts.
