Terrible Handheld Games

Post by Overload »

What are the absolute worst handheld games you've had the displeasure of playing? Don't include handheld LCD Tiger Electronics types of games, but ones that were released for any of the "proper" handhelds. Looking through my own collection, I couldn't find any that really struck me as utter shit, so I'm turning to the forums.

Game.com had a lot of crappy games. Couldn't remember a single one though.

You mean like Resident Evil 2 or Duke Nukem Forever?

There's just a ton of shovelware on the GBA and later handhelds. I hear that the Gizmondo had atrocious games.

The Game Boy port of the first Mortal Kombat is wretched. It's ugly, the sound effects are nigh audible, and there is a half-second delay between a button press and its action. But I was a kid and didn't have too many games, so I played it constantly. I was desperate for a handheld fighter, I guess.

On that point, I have heard, but I have not verified, that Mortal Kombat Advance (GBA) is completely broken.

On the opposite end of the morality spectrum, The Bible Game (GBA) is easily the worst portable game in my collection.

Supposedly Mortal Kombat Advance was so bad that Electronic Gaming Monthly gave it a zero, a first for EGM. Actually I've heard that there are a number of Game Boy Advance games that aren't that good, at all, like some of the ported games (Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis and R-Type III for example).

I've heard that Castlevania The Adventure wasn't very good either.

I'm sure there are plenty more, but those are the standout ones for me.

As for what's the worst portable game I have.....I don't really have anything that "bad".....maybe Street Fighter II for the original Game Boy, and really the only bad part about that game is the choppy animation. But other than that I find it pretty good. I enjoy it.

Call of duty road to victory would definitely be my least favorite portable game. I was fresh off of enjoying COD 2 for the 360 when i picked up this stinker. I can't say i really love the COD franchise but it is a decent FPS. Roads to vicotry is one of the worst games i've ever played. I don't care if its on a portable or not. It is definitely one of the most generic ugly looking FPS games i've ever played in my life.
NHL on the game gear is pretty terrible too. Cyberball for the Lynx is really bad. Kung Food is pretty terrible on the Lync too. Lets not forget Pit Fighter on the Lynx!

EGM did give it a zero...a score that it reserved for games thate were broken to the point of unplayability. (To be fair, since it booted up, they should have at least given it a 0.5...) I purchased the issues when it was released, and the review was priceless. Regardless, I would like to add the game to my "terrible videogames" collection, but it actually sells for $11 used...which is more than I am usually willing to pay for good GBA games!

EDIT: I have heard that the GBA port of Sonic the Hedgehog is atrocious, but I have th R-Type III port. The music is WAY off, but otherwise, it is not that bad.
