Sick of avatars...

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Sick of avatars...

Post by ZenLogikos »

Anyone else?

Nintendo made them prominent with the Wii (don't own yet but eventually will), Sony will have them with Home (already?), MS is introducing them with the next dashboard update, and I just bought NHL09, which has a player creation feature (ok, nothing new), but also has you go online to easportsworld.com to create another avatar to represent you thoughout EA games...so I have two characters for one game essentially. The first three examples I don't even have yet, so this EA thing is my first experience with them, but I'm obviously aware of those that have come before - and I'm already sick of this shit. If you had one avatar across multiple platforms/games(not gonna happen), that's one thing - but this is getting ridiculous. I like the online connectivity of current consoles, but come on...

Blame Nintendo right? ;)
But yeah, I'm pretty over them too, especially how MS and Sony just gotta do what Nintendo is doing...
 (FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

I've spent more than a year laughing at people and their Miis because they are stupid. Even my own Mii annoys the crap out of me. I'm quite pissed that MS has taken a shine to these things.

I heard they were going to do that with a first person shooter awhile back, but it got axed by the big wigs, because they felt that killing something that represented a person was too horrific.

Perfect Dark was originally going to let you use the Transfer Pack with the Game Boy Camera to get a picture of your face and put it on one of the in game models for deathmatch. As you mentioned, is was axed due to the implications of shooting at your three year old cousin.

While I'm not particularly fond of the avatars either, some of the characters made using Miis can be really well done.
