Help: Undervolting A Windows 7 Quadcore Intel core processor

Post by AdamGomez1987 »

Hi everyone,

Would anyone happen to know where I can find some information as to where I can undervolt my Windows 7 Quadcore Intel Core Processor laptop? I'm around 47 min 59 max celcius on my laptop and was hoping to bring it down because it goes higher when playing games like Civilization V, Skyrim, Resident Evil 4 and it will shut off. Thanks!

Undervolting really wont solve the problem (you'll get a reduction in performance).

Dust out your vents. Also if your PC is out of warranty, you might consider opening it up and reapplying thermal compound.

59 celcius is nothing, and with a laptop, dont expect low temps. I wouldnt worry about it, unless your getting over 90c!

Thank you very much for letting me know that. Then that tells me that there isn't a temperature problem with my laptop. However, there is something shutting off my laptop. What'll happen is that the machine will still run, but it'll black out while it's running and then it'll shut down as if somebody held the shut down button. I believe when a laptop overheats, everything shuts down at once like you're pulling the power supply. That isn't the case of when I'm playing Skyrim or Civilization V. I was able to play these games with no worry of them shutting down, but the laptop is 2 years old.

Update: I some new information, the model of the laptop:

Actually, that could be a thermal shutdown. Can you run something heavy in the background and use SpeedFan or something to confirm the CPU and Video temps?

I used Coretemp to check out my temperatures and I was wrong about the temperatures, they go higher than I thought.

When you say run something heavy in the background, do you mean like a stress test? I was trying some programs like Orthos and CPUID before.

Yeah, I also bought a cooling fan to bring the temperature down to that.
