NE Blizzard, "Nemo" 2013

Post by Ziggy »

So who else found Nemo?

Pretty impressive snow totals here right now, and it's still snowing in some areas. Last estimate I heard before last night was 1-2 feet, but it's more like 2-3 feet out there. I checked the snow totals as of 8:20am and Miller Place had about 31". It's gonna take forever to dig out the cars!

The good news is, I don't have to go to work today!

I was a little worried about power outages because the winds were suppose to be something like 50mph. The power was/is fine here, I don't know about other areas though. I haven't heard anything on the news about it. Apparently LIPA put up the white flag with storm recovery.

There was some crazy lightening last night... during a blizzard! I don't believe I've ever experienced thunder and lightening during a blizzard before. It was pretty crazy though. You know how lightening lights up your surroundings at nighttime? It was really weird because of all the (white) snow. Everything would light up this crazy blue/purple color.

So I'll probably wait until around noon before I start digging out. I have to wait until the plows do their final job anyway, because I'll just have to shovel again anyway. Until then, I'll just enjoy my snow day. Maybe play a few video games.

I'll post some pictures later. Post em if you got em!

Ya know what would be the perfect game for a day like that? 1080 Snowboarding. Sled Storm for the PS1 would be a good choice too.

Lotsa snow here.

I'm more or less trapped in the house. I live on a private road that won't get plowed until 6PM or so, not that I would choose to leave anyway.

Gonna get some homework done.

Yeah, I'm snowed in.
Been up all night watching the storm out my window.
So far I've used my time to replace the RGB harness in my MVS U4-25
basically what was happening was the monitor would randomly go black while playing. it was still "on," however (neck glow and buzzing sound) & i figured out that the slightest touch to the RGB harness connected to the chassis would make the monitor spring back to life. upon closer inspection it was obvious the wires were a bit crimped and the tap test had me assume there was a break in the wire. i ordered a replacement RGB cable for $3 but the molex connector was for a wells gardner and wouldn't plug into a Toei TC-RM251S. these parts are very hard to come by, so i had to cut out the molex connector from the cab, extract the pins out of the housing, restore the grips, take the pins off the old wire by opening the shield grips with a blade and soldering in the new wire above the wire-grip and above the old cable. then i scotch locked the new RGB harness into the corresponding wires in the jamma harness
A bit of a PITA, but I'm glad it's done.
The monitor looks great and has been running without issue for a solid 5 hours now.
Many proclaim this to be the finest lowres monitor ever built. And so far I'm inclined to believe them.

here's a pic from my street taken about 13 hours ago, when the storm was still in its infancy:

it has accumulated a lot more since then, and it's still coming down even now.

It's pretty nice here in NYC. I'll try to take a picture if we go for a walk later.

I went out to shovel at about noon, and I didn't come in until about 3. The sad part is, I'm not even done! There's an incredible amount of snow out there. I've heard a lot of the roads around here aren't even plowed. I will most likely miss work again tomorrow. Which is good and bad. Good, because who wants to go to work? But bad because I'll miss my overtime day, and because I'll be busting my ass digging the cars out.

At least I can kick back now and relax a little. I have some pics, I'll try and post them later.
