Hmm, I assumed it was like Lost Odyssey considering it was Mistwalker's last RPG. Is that not the case? I really liked LO.

Not at all. I have no idea what to compare it to, the combat is kind of a mess. It's real time, there's a clunky cover system, you can only play as one character during battle, etc.

Recently picked up Star Ocean: Last Hope for PS3, and enjoying it so far.

Glad to see that Tri-Ace can still deliver..

Yeah, having played an hour so far the combat seems a little wonky. Still, I can see playing it for a while and see if I get the hang of it or come to enjoy it. I hear that the full game is in the 20-30 hour range, which is a nice length for an RPG in my opinion.

I just finished Mario RPG again for the first time in about 15 years. It was a lot shorter than I remember. Of course the last time I played it, I was determined to find the casino and I had neither a strategy guide or the Internet. I think I probably also beat Culex without using the Lazy Shells.

Next I think I am going to tackle Secret of Evermore, one of the few SNES Squaresoft RPGs that I never played.

Mentioned Lagoon in another thread and then thought "hey what the hell, I should play this."

It's on the SNES and I was surprised to find out it was actually ported from the Sharp X68000.

It's an action-RPG that's clearly influenced by Ys. One key difference though is the lack of the "bump" battle system, in Lagoon there is an attack button and the sword is animated. And this brings us to the biggest point of contention and the reason there's a bunch of 1/10 reviews on GameFacks and other sites. The sword sucks. It's as small as a butter knife and strikes at a very specific angle. It doesn't swing at an arc or semi-circle, it pokes out from the hero's right hand. Makes it very hard to fight enemies without taking damage. Thankfully you do regenerate health (again, it's a lot like Ys).

Anyway, we'll see how this one goes...

I have no idea why, but I thought this was a fun game as a kid. I played it years later, and my god, I could not stand it at all.

I started playing Witcher 2 again.

I'll be damned, but I hate not knowing what happened in the first game. I'm so damned lost. I'm excited for the third one, but not knowing what happened in the first one will still aggravate me. Bahhh.

They pretty much spell it out in the first couple of hours of 2...also I thin there is a video synopsis they released as well.
