Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Does the netlink do anything at all these days? Or is it completely useless like the Sega Channel, gamegear TV tuner, Xband, etc?

"Unlike other online gaming services in the US, one does not connect to a central service, but instead tells the dial-up modem connected to the Saturn's cartridge slot to call to the person whom one wishes to play with. Since it requires no servers to operate, the service can operate as long as at least two users have the necessary hardware and software, as well as a phone line."
I can't back this up, but it sounds like if you have a couple land lines, you could still make it work.

Need FreeMCboot? I'll install it on your PS2 Memory Card for free if you cover postage both ways.

I'm also pretty sure that there is a way to get these to work over the Internet. Too lazy to dig through this website: http://www.saturnleague.com/phpBB3/ but I bet it is there somewhere.skate323k137 wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_NetLink

yeah you got a good deal. The modem itself isn't rare or pricey -- I have one on its way to me now. But it's nice that you got it boxed. The box actually adds a good bit to its worth.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
I recall an old hack for the dreamcast where you could connect it to your PC's 56K modem, and then forward your internet connection to the dreamcast that way. Sometimes you had to add a line voltage simulator. Perhaps there's a similar hack for the saturn. It would be interesting to know, but I doubt I'd ever use it.

you don't need such a thing. The Saturn Netlink is direct-dial. It didn't dial in to servers. That's why all the Saturn Netlink games are still online.skate323k137 wrote:I recall an old hack for the dreamcast where you could connect it to your PC's 56K modem, and then forward your internet connection to the dreamcast that way. I suppose there is something like a landline simulator for PC for people without a landline?...noiseredux wrote:you don't need such a thing. The Saturn Netlink is direct-dial. yeah I believe so. I feel like I've read about such things for folks trying to get DC's online without landlines. But I have a landline so I haven't looked into it myself.elmagicochrisg wrote: I suppose there is something like a landline simulator for PC for people without a landline?...

If you read up a few posts from the one you quoted, I quoted a wiki that states exactly that, and said "it sounds like if you have a couple land lines, you could still make it work"noiseredux wrote:you don't need such a thing. There's only a handfull of netlink games though right? I suppose it would be fun to try. A real landline would proably be infinitely easier than the DC style hack, if such a hack even exists for the saturn. There's a good chance you could just use a VoIP line, but no guarantee. I have seen dial up work through comcast's VoIP service (lol old people... long story).
