saturn ram games

Post by gennss »

Anyone know what games support the ram cart? I've had this 4 meg cart and i'm not sure what games it affects.

Apparently (from what i've read) It works on Vampire Savior and Pocketfighter.

There are quite a few games that use the 4 meg and 1 meg RAM carts. I think all the Capcom games that require a RAM cart can use the 4M one, but the SNK games can be finicky in that they will only use the 1M one, with maybe a few exceptions.

What I've found interesting is that there is one US game that will make use of the RAM cart: Marvel Super Heroes. It enables more frames for the characters, but the game speed takes a major hit. (Are there any other US games that take advantage of the RAM cart? I dunno.)

Granted this is a Japanese game, but the most fun I've ever had with my RAM cart is METAL SLUG. It does a superb job of satiating that primal urge to blow stuff up.

I was impressed how well the saturn could handle Metal Slug. And it is an awesome game :D

I haven't found there to be a speed hit with Marvel Super Heroes, just FYI.

You might want to put "optional" beside MSH. It's playable w/o the RAM cart (at least the US version is).

Hmm...It's been some time since I've played it. I'll have to hook up my two Saturns and try it on each of them. I could have sworn it slows the game down when using the RAM cart. Did you enable the RAM cart in the options menu?

Yes. But then, I was also using the Japanese release. When I was in Japan I made sure to pick up almost every Capcom VS FIGHTING release. I missed Cyberbots, though.
