I've only had to do it once, and it was on my mom's computer because Geek Squad locked it up so tight that my mom couldn't even watch videos online.

Lol GeekSquad, and the worst Computer Repair company goes too!BurningDoom wrote:I've only had to do it once, and it was on my mom's computer because Geek Squad locked it up so tight that my mom couldn't even watch videos online.
Actually there isnt such thing as a Good Computer Repair company, if you cant fix it yourself, your fucked!
Some Articles i find everyone should read about GeekSquad...

http://consumerist.com/2011/06/10/9-con ... quad-geek/From day one, I was absolutely amazed at what Geek Squad really does. They are absolutely NOT technicians. Agents are not certified in computer repair or diagnostics! They are certified in sales, customer profiling, and situational tactics. I kid you not! I had to take 2 (100 question) exams based entirely on "expected computer repair costs from urban environments in today's economy" and how to get the upper hand. Needless to say, I quit today after 52 days of work.
3. Selling services and warranties are pushed more than actually completing repairs. I remember one instance where my GM said that selling a new computer with services was more important than completing a customer’s unit that they had already paid for.

I would NEVER spend the money to have my computer fixed, unless you have some awesome super secret place that doesnt charge out of the ying yang or try to get you to buy components you dont need.irixith wrote:Now that's not true, or even fair.Hazerd wrote:Actually there isnt such thing as a Good Computer Repair company, if you cant fix it yourself, your fucked!

Computer technicians and repair companies are far worse than auto repair shops.

I reinstall XP every year or so on my extra pcs. 7 and Ubuntu have not given me an issue yet. The reason I reinstall it is because I either goof of with them, open questionable things on them, or let others use them and they bugger them up.

This, although fixing a Computer is alot easier than a Car imo, due to needing thousands of dollars worth of tools, a Garage with a lift or pit, and the labor can be extensive sometimes.BoringSupreez wrote:Computer technicians and repair companies are far worse than auto repair shops.

What are you people doing to your machines? My Windows folder was created Friday, May 30, 2008, 6:41:35 AM, so that was my last install. I believe I had gotten a new main HD.
If your hard drive was damaged, you wouldn't be lasting 3-4 months between wipes. You'd probably be lasting hours or days at absolute most. You must be installing something that's bad or going places that load it up with crap. But you can do a surface scan of your HD, use Disk Managament, or check Windows System Events for signs of HD issues yourself.TheRev wrote:5 times in the last year with Windows 7 ultimate
I must be screwing something up. I finally have had enough and I'm taking to to a tech to have a real clean reinstall done and make sure my hard drive isn't damaged.

I'm not sure it's so much improvements in Windows as improvements in program developers and general machine specs. The stuff that crufts up old Windows installs has a lesser and lesser impact as your specs go up, simply because you process through the cruft faster.marurun wrote:I find that a Windows XP or earlier machine that is heavily used typically needs a reformat/reinstall to clean it up and improve performance every 1-2 years. If I went 2 years without a reformat/reinstall I found my computer really dragging. Now that I have Vista, and have had for several years, I've found it isn't as imperative. Vista seems more resilient to the kind of stuff that would drag down older Windows OSes.

Sometimes I just like to start over, like San Francisco. (You have to have Hulu+ to see the scene.)Hobie-wan wrote:What are you people doing to your machines? My Windows folder was created Friday, May 30, 2008, 6:41:35 AM, so that was my last install. I believe I had gotten a new main HD.

Indeed, what Hobie said. Loading it up with crap sounds exactly like what it is.
